eh... Rory used to be the captain here in Sudbury when he was in junior, and it's actually not that bad. I mean it's a friggin All-star game, not like it's something important by which the league should be judged or anything.

Yeah, except the All-Star game 100% voted on as by the fans......so, uh, it's the fans, not the NHL. And I voted for Rory as well.

It could be worse, you could have the All-star game determine home field advantage in the World Series[/WTF]
If anything, All-Star games should be done away with, they usually are dull and pointless.

I don't think it's a joke so much as a statement. While he's obviously not a star by any stretch, he's a good role player who does a lot of intangible hustle things on the ice. And a lot of hustle players don't have stats to back up what they actually get done. Every team has that one guy whom the fans love, even if he doesn't show up on the statsheet. Fitzpatrick represents that guy and him getting elected is a little bit of a sign of appreciation for the blue-collar guys in the league.

I like the NHL All-Star Games more than the other sports, but it's all about the Skills Competition. That thing is greatness personified.

Sharks sent in 6-7 players. Nabokov could've been in just as easily as Toskala. It's hard to say one is better than the other right now.

I believe only the first lines on each team are All-Stars, they rest are simply playing in the All-Star game.

MLB and the NBA have done the same things. Grant Hill's first year in Orlando, he played 4 games and got voted by the fans into the All Star Game.
In Mike Schmidt's final year in baseball he only played until May 29th or something like that and then retired and got voted in.
Rory owns.

The All-Star game is ultimately pointless, it's nice to see the guys who don't always get the recognition make it. Not everyone is Gretzky, for every talented player, you have to have at least 2 or 3 grinders to get into the corners, make the hits and do the stuff the stars simply don't do.

Its a damn joke that Kovalchuk and Hossa aren't at the top of the forwards list. Crosby, Ovechkin and Jagr are good also, but, no one else should be above them. Sorry. Its true.

Its true. well, considering Crosby's the scoring leader right now and Wayne Gretzky's heir apparent it shouldn't come as a surprise that he's above Kovalchuk (who hasn't been as great this year as years past).

Well thats why I listed Crosby as one of the few that I dont mind ranking ahead of them. Kovy and Hossa have both led the league in scoring at one point or another this year as well though. But they've both been somewhat dissapointing lately, true.
