Thank god i also have the home computer. I have a HP pentium 4 laptop and it was good earlier today, then when i switched it on later on, an error came up saying:
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original setup CD-ROM. Select "r" at the first screen to start repair.
Now i cannot find an original setup cd-rom, i still have all the neccessary cd's notes for the laptop. What i did find was a cd called "Application and Driver Recovery DVD", and it is indeed to repair the system software...
HOWEVER
My only slot for the CD-ROM, is f***ed too. 2 months ago, for no reason, the cd-rom would whirr inside, but it would not come up in "My computer", and the i could not get access to stuff on the rom at all. However, after trying a dozen times, it worked, but since then it has mostly not responded to the CD Rom. So i don't know now, if the repair cd is actually loaded propbably or not, all i get is a black screen with the problem in the words above, i cannot get to desktop!
HELP!

I had an HP. Had to have it wiped 3 times. Never buying one of those pieces of crap again.

HP's are notoriously bad. Best idea is to contact the manufacturer and see if they can walk you through. If they can't help, ask a local computer repair shop to look into it. If they don't help, get a sledgehammer, because it'll be the only thing that can save it from there.

The laptop is done, sir. Whenever you get that error message, whatever you have saved is going to be erased, thanks to a worm or virus in there.
Now the fun part of reinstalling everything begins.

And how do i reinstall, it's ok actually, losing data, i'm not bothered, nothing too important on it. Just angry i will have to start doing my Mark Henry photoshop sig again! I have looked at porn in the past, but not on this particular day/week.
Anyway, how do i reinstall? I'd hate to leave it in this state.

Since you stated that the CD-ROM drive is messed up...how about use all the reinstalling procedures by using a flash drive? Some tekkie would know that...me, I'm just a general knowledge guy.

www.hp.comUse their support line, they should have some free options. Be sure you look at the specifics for your personal model and all, there may be security fixes and such for it.
