Post cover art (be it for books, movies, video games, albums, etc) that is almsot completely opposite to the contents. Here's one I always remember: While I know this is an actual image from the movie, it makes it look like a grim military drama. True, there are dramatic moments, but it's not drop-dead serious.

Let's get it out of the way Haha, I had that same one in mind when I was about to post. Another example: Solid Snake on the box art, yet we're suddenly playing as a different character after what was basically a prologue.

Recent DVD releases of Mazes & Monsters, one of Tom Hanks' earliest roles uses a Divinci Code era picture of him on the cover.

Toho would often make poster art for the Godzilla films while the film was in the planning stage. Like this one for example. That’s from 1992’s Godzilla vs Mothra. At the bottom of the poster you can see two Mothra Larvae hatching out of an egg.. reminiscent of the 1964 film Mothra vs Godzilla. But in the 92 film there is only one Mothra larvae in the entire film... but there is another larvae... Battra... but he looked so much more different then Mothra .. he looked more caterpillar like. And he didn’t come out of the same egg as Mothra did. So yeah, I guess when they made this poster they thought the movie was going to be more like the 1964 film. But things changed. But they kept the poster.

I don't exactly remember any naked horse riding in this book... ...nor do I remember the red-headed orphan becoming a farmer's daughter... ...but I DO remember when Dorothy carpet-bombed the Wicked Witch of the West in an F-15 Fighter Jet!

Low-budget direct-to-video movies and budget-store rereleases of old movies are a goldmine for covers that don't accurately represent the movie itself. Amy Jo Johnson is neither the lead, nor does her character vamp out on-screen. Jesse's clean shaven throughout the entire movie. Kadeem Hardison wears a brown jacket with a red shirt and has dreadlocks and a full beard in the movie, Mark Dacascos wears a black jumpsuit throughout. The Aerialbots/Superion weren't in the movie. Any kid expecting the happy Disney-style romp this cover promises is gonna need therapy. Obviously both Godzilla and Megalon are way too small as depicted, but also the action takes place entirely in Japan, somewhere distinctly lacking in World Trade Center towers. And then there's these: Would you believe they're all for the same movie?

I bought this tape expecting a big muscular black Rambo-type gunning down foes like Phillip Michael Thomas and Dabney Coleman in a big 80s cheesefest. But the film itself is from the 70s, PMT is barely in it, and that muscular badass with gun blazing DOESN'T EVEN EXIST. It's some scrawny dude who uses rudimentary karate on his foes. They just hired a model or something for the boxart. I was PISSED.

One more on Godzilla.. I have seen lots of video covers for Showa era (60s/70s) Godzilla films featuring a Hersei era (80s/90s) looking Godzilla on the cover art.
I think I have seen one for King Kong vs Godzilla featuring Kong from the 70s remake or King Kong Lives on the cover.

This came to mind. Trish was still blonde in this movie, nor does she wear that sexy leather outfit. It was a passable film in my opinion. I liked how she did the Stratusfaction in a fight scene.

Ok from earlier here is a DVD cover of King Kong vs Godzilla from our old mate Goodtimes: Yeah not only does it feature Kong from the Dino Deleurntis films, it features Godzilla in his 1985 design. At just below the heads you can see a Showa era Godzilla, but still not from this movie (looks like from the MechaGodzilla films) For the record this how both monsters looked in the film:

I swear one of Lucas’ special editions had a karate fighting C-3PO in it.

The Death Star does not appear in this movie, and Pumaman does NOT look this cool.

Looks nothing like this in the movie. Probably desperately trying to get that sweet sweet maniac cop crowd! Actually... from what I remember this is bang on. The filmmaker saw Maniac Cop and wanted to make a movie with Z'dar in it.

Batman the Movie's DVD Cover trying to make it look like it had something to do with the Nolan Trilogy. By putting it in an all black case with a Red Bat Logo. There are no Labyrinths... or dragons flying in front of full moons... in fact this is not a Fantasy movie despite what they depict. Also that picture of Tom Hanks is at least a decade and a half off of how he appears in the movie.

I can't find any of them right now because phone but Kristen Stewart was in a billion lame horror movies as a teenager, mostly as a secondary character.
I'll give you two guesses what happened to the DVD covers once Twilight happened.
I mean I know Dennis Quaid isn't exactly doing much these days but come on...
