Sad news. Chance Perdomo young actor and male lead of spin off series Gen V and would have probably ended on The Boys at some point, has been killed in a motorcycle accident. Other then Gen V I don't not much about his work, but looked like promising star who was going places. He was only 27 RIP www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2024/mar/30/chance-perdomo-dead-27

I figured, since the new trailer for the next season of The Boys was released a few hours ago, I might as well make a thread for it!

I think shows need to be less scared of re-casting. It certainly isn't disrespectful to do so.
But since they aren't, I hope they come up with a good way to deal with it.

I don't read the comics, but is this show like going anywhere? I mean, is there some end goal?

I don't read the comics, but is this show like going anywhere? I mean, is there some end goal? Kripke initially had a five year goal with it, but after Gen V did well, he's changing his mind on that a bit apparently. The Boys creator Eric Kripke says he's learned his lesson about predicting how many seasons a show will last, citing one memorable television example that changes his view about Gen V. Even though Prime Video's superhero satire franchise tends to be limited to eight episodes, Kripke and the rest of the team that works on The Boys and Gen V are able to move plots seamlessly. This gives the franchise an expertly crafted feel that avoids the issues of other plodding miniseries that often feel like an overextended movie. That's because Kripke has a lot of experience working in television, notably creating the monster-hunting drama Supernatural which ran for 15 seasons. Kripke, who serves as executive producer on Gen V, reflected on his experience with Supernatural in an interview with Inverse, saying he's the worst at figuring out how long a show might last. This is in reference to the fact that Kripke left his role as showrunner of Supernatural after season 5, though the series would continue for 10 more seasons. Because of this and because of Gen V's early success, as he says in the quote below, Kripke isn't sure about his five-year plan for The Boys anymore: “I have since realized that literally no one in history is worse at predicting the amount of seasons of a show, like literally. I have learned my lesson and I've stopped predicting how many seasons these shows go. You will find out in hindsight.”

yay
Amazon continues to have faith in The Boys.
The series has been renewed for Season 5, the company announced during Tuesday’s Upfront presentation. The news comes about a month before the fourth installment is set to hit Prime Video.
“The Boys is an unabashed and bold series that continues captivating our customers all over the world by piercing the cultural fabric season after season,” Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement. “We are proud of this series that has grown into a global franchise, and we are thrilled that Eric Kripke and the creative team have more engaging stories to tell for all the loyal fans.”
The eight-episode Season 4 premieres on June 13 with three episodes, followed by a new episode each week, ending with the season finale on July 18.
In Season 4, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son and his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.
Of the renewal, showrunner Eric Kripke said: “The Boys could be the best job I’ll ever have. What other show allows me to write about politics, capitalism, family, and exploding genitalia, though not in that order. The cast and crew are deeply grateful to Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios for the opportunity to tell this story for another season. My only problem is that since this year promises to be free of any conflict or misinformation, we’re not sure what to write about.”
The Boys is based on The New York Times best-selling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, who also serve as executive producers. Kripke developed the series for TV and serves as showrunner and executive producer.
Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Phil Sgriccia, Michaela Starr, Paul Grellong, David Reed, Meredith Glynn, Judalina Neira, Ken F. Levin, and Jason Netter also serve as executive producers. The Boys is produced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios with Kripke Enterprises, Original Film, and Point Grey Pictures.
Season 4 stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Cameron Crovetti. Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will also join the cast.

Well, Kripke gets to stop at five seasons after all! It's fine with me, better the show ends while it's still good rather than going too long and losing itself. I bet it's a relief for him too.
Variety article:
“The Boys” are back this week — but they’ll soon be gone for good.
Amazon’s satirical superhero drama will be ending with Season 5, which was announced by showrunner Eric Kripke Tuesday morning, ahead of the Season 4 debut Thursday. The news is bittersweet for fans of the saga between villainous supe Homelander (Antony Starr) and morally gray supe-hunter Butcher (Karl Urban) because while it’s the beginning of the end, it’s also going out exactly as the creator intended it to.
According to Kripke, “The Boys” Season 5 is currently being written and the plan is to shoot the eight-episode final installment from November 2024 through mid-2025. Here, Kripke breaks down his choice to conclude “The Boys” and discusses what the decision means for the future of Amazon’s other live-action shows based on the comic book adaptation: spinoff “Gen V” and two in development projects, one set in Mexico and another that hasn’t yet been announced.
How long have you known Season 5 of “The Boys” would be the final season?
I would say near the beginning of writing Season 3, so years — years and years. And it took a minute for Amazon to agree, it took another minute to get them to clear it in all the channels so that we could finally announce it. I’m thrilled to be able to announce it because it was just like a tiny bit frustrating to always answer, “I don’t know how long it’ll go! And maybe it’ll go forever! And who can say?” But the truth was, I just wasn’t allowed to say yet. You can imagine getting permission to finally announce something like that is a pretty complicated deal. So I’m glad to just finally get it out there. I can feel more relaxed, everyone understands and they can go into Season 4 understanding the bigger shape of the huge five-season story. So I’m pleased to get it out there. When did you finally get approval to announce and to announce it yourself?
Real approval from up and down Amazon probably came about a year ago. I give them all the credit in the world and I’m so grateful for them to let me end this story on my terms. That’s obviously really rare. I think for about a year, they were sort of very, very lovingly saying, “Well, maybe you’ll want to do more? Are you sure?” But when they saw that I was pretty dead set on Season 5, they went along with it. And and I really am grateful.
We announced Season 5 and I was hungry to get the word out that it was the final season. And so that’s a chain of executives and PR executives. And then we decided since Amazon had already announced Season 5, that it made sense for me to announce the final season.
And because you wanted to clear it all up on Twitter?
Look, I’m not gonna lie, it wasn’t fun to have 1,000 comments daily about how I suck when I knew the whole time that I knew how the show was gonna end. So that’s only a small part of it. But the main thing is, I think it puts Season 4 in the right context. It’s weird for this show to say, but it’s a slightly more introspective season. We always look at it in the three-act movie way as the end of Act 2 low point before the roller coaster ride of the climax. And I just wanted people to understand where it fit into the larger piece so that they kind of get what this season is supposed to be.
I know you’re in the writers’ room writing Season 5 now, so what is the timeline for shooting and when it will air?
It’s not totally locked in yet but we are going to start shooting around mid-November. And I don’t know when it’ll premiere yet, but we’ll be shooting well into middle of ’25.
Will the final season be the usual eight episodes?
It will be eight episodes. What does this mean for “Gen V” and for the Mexico spinoff currently in the works?
I think they can and should continue. “The Boys” story is about Butcher and Homelander and these two planets crashing into each other and this particular story doesn’t work without both of them. And you can only keep that going for so long. So what I would say is, this particular story is ending, the Butcher-Homelander is ending. But there can be other stories and other corners of the universe. And hopefully, it’s vibrant and perverted enough to allow for those stories. So hopefully, “Gen V” continues, hopefully, a couple other things we have in development continue.
A couple?
There’s more than “The Boys” Mexico spinoff, but we’re not ready to announce anything yet.
On a personal level, do you see yourself as a five-season-story man — when you get to choose?
It’s interesting to think about why five always worked for me as a number. And the best that I can come up with is, I was really trained on five acts. I understand the movement of the introduction, the conflict in the middle, the low point — and the big finish. I just get it. So when people say, “I want my show to go two or three seasons,” I’m like, that’s not a round number like five should be.

Ok so decades ago I said No way will Preacher become a show,it did and was good. Then started reading The Boys, back when it was with what Wildstorm?,NO Way will this become a show... It did and it is good.
So what is the next Ennis run to become a show? Crossed? The Pro? I want his Frank Castle in Vietnam as a 2 or 3 film series.

Knowing there's an end point is good. Irredeemable was an excellent series but eventually it felt like it was padding its run. The boys was starting to feel that way for me. There are still interesting ways they can go, but it takes a lot to watch. Having a planned end point definitey increases the chances of a satisfying conclusion.

I dunno if Crossed could ever be done without a severe watering down. It's considered to be too dark and bleak even by Ennis standards. The Boys only gets away with it because of the comedic tone, which Crossed has none of if I recall.

I'm rewatching season 1 right now and it's really strange how much more comfortable they were with Frenchie and Kimiko but season 3 became this weird "We wanted to prove that they wouldn't work in a relationship" narrative. I know Kripke's never been great with romance, but geez.
Anyway just saw that season 4 is supposed to start streaming tonight at 2 AM central time. Who needs sleep!

I stayed up late to watch it when it first got put up, and yeah, that's ... definitely not the best thing for the subconscious. Maybe watching The Boys just before bed is what happened to Wendy Choo too lol
