When Goldust first appeared in the WWF back in 95, were there any veiled references by the commentators about being Dusty's son?

Not that I recall. I only remember references to Dusty around 97.

I wasn't watching much, but I don't remember them saying anything about it. I do remember being very confused on why Dustin Rhodes was dressed like that.

None until 1997.
I was 11 years old and I knew Dustin Rhodes was coming in as it was in the magazines, but when he started doing promos I was unsure if that was him or not because he had long hair and there's no way you could grow hair that fast in 4 months... how stupid was I not to realise it was a wig. I was astounded when he took it off in his debut match haha

Here was this long, golden haired vision featured in the vignettes, and when he wrestles he has a crew cut. I get that wrestling in the wig wouldn't have been manageable, but to me it initially took away some of his aura. It came back with some of his later 'flamboyant' mannerisms, however.

I think a bit before the "shoot" interviews, on an episode of Shotgun, the caption for Goldust's chyron said "What must his daddy think?"

They were implicit, like the shatter dreams was a tribute to Dusty.
Prichard said they were very careful with this early on because Goldust and Dusty weren’t speaking to each other. Bruce had to call Dusty a lot and give him a heads up.

Yeah I kept waiting for him to grow his real hair out. The full bodysuit also threw me off at the time
