I've finally caught up on "The Mandalorian" over this weekend and I'm really surprised at how much I like it. It feels like the perfect combination of the "Star Wars" universe mixed with "True Grit" and those old western series like "The Rifleman" and a dash of modern action like the "John Wick" trilogy. They're really hitting it out of the park, and this is coming from someone who doesn't normally like "Star Wars" unless it's connected to the original trilogy in some capacity.
I've got to admit, since the Disney acquisition, "Star Wars" has really been nailing it outside of the new trilogy. That's not to say Episodes VII and VIII were bad (actually, "The Last Jedi" was quite bad now that I mention it), but "Rogue One" might have been my second-favorite "Star Wars" movie behind "The Empire Strikes Back" and even "Solo" far exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations going into it. It's really giving me confidence in the rest of the franchise going forward after "The Rise of Skywalker" puts a bow on the original story.

Having now caught up, whilst I've enjoyed the show so far, Episode 3 scratched an itch I didn't know I needed. In that the final bit was basically John Wick in space and it was glorious.
Can't see where this all goes from here.

Hell, I'd even settle for a floating magnet Baby Yoda Pram!

I haven't seen it yet, but I am hoping to soon since everyone speaks so highly of it. Although, the John Wick mentions gives me pause cause boy golly did the John Wick movies not really do much for me other than how pretty they looked.
I did, however, see a commercial for it on Twitch. Which had a guy frozen in carbonite... Which sorta doesn't make sense (to me at least). Like, didn't Vader want to freeze Han in that as an experiment because he wanted to use it to capture Luke because they just happened to have it on hand? The very fact it was an experiment shows it wasn't some like popular method or something. Although, I guess its use could have been so famous throughout the universe that it caught on from that point going forward!
Anyways, taking a thing from the movies and then expanding it like it is some big thing or how something is only done throughout the Galaxy gave me bad old EU vibes and shivers. Hahaha. Still, like the overall look from the rest of the commercial!

The John Wick aspect really only applies for about ten minutes of one episode.

Freezing dudes in carbonite's become something of a trope for bounty hunters in the Star Wars expanded universe. It's pretty common even in SWTOR and that takes place some 3600 years before the movies.
Maybe it was just unusual on Bespin because it was mainly used for industrial transportation of tibanna gas and not suited for transport of prisoners.

On Bespin all they was an industrial tool when they really needed a medical tool. Kinda like if you amputated somebody's arm with a loggers chainsaw instead of a hospital grade cutting tool. It works, it's just not preferred at all for a couple reasons. They did some modifications to make it a finer tool, tested it on Solo. It worked so they just reloaded it for Luke.

I haven't seen it yet, but I am hoping to soon since everyone speaks so highly of it. Although, the John Wick mentions gives me pause cause boy golly did the John Wick movies not really do much for me other than how pretty they looked. It's only one scene from one episode. The action scenes in the show are actually pretty grounded compared to most other shows, as Mando isn't a completely flawless killing machine incapable of screwing up. I won't go too far into spoilers with it, but he does get his ass handed to him a few times even prior to this particular moment. Carbonite was never an 'experimental thing' at all. It was actually originally used as a method of hibernation prior to the development of Hyperdrive in Star Wars lore. Hell, it was even used in an episode of Clone Wars by Anakin and Obi Wan themselves: The use of it in The Manadalorian actually makes perfect sense (I won't give away the specifics since it spoils parts of the first episode, but when you see it even the usage of it in Empire makes more sense). Matter of fact, I'd go as far as to say that they showed how and why it WOULD be used on a widescale level. I will add this though: they do expand on little EU things that make perfect sense as well. Be on the lookout for the Ice Cream Machine finally serving its in-canon purpose a few episodes in as well!
