I'm starting this thread to effectively "crown" singer-songwriter Jewel as one of the greatest singer-songwriters of all time. Always made good music, even if the later stuff didn't quite sell like the early stuff did, and always stayed true to herself. She's still at it today, and SHE'S STILL GOT IT! (clap, clap, clap clap clap)

Everyday we starve while we eat white bread and beer instead of a handshake or hug.

True to herself barring the brief 0304 period. I just have to post Todd In The Shadows' "Trainwreckords" episode on 0304. (Language Warning)

True to herself barring the brief 0304 period. I thought it was pretty clear all of that was done with a wink and a nudge towards the audience.

The "Oh, I'm just being ironic" was her excuse for if/when it failed. I remember being really saddened by the whole stunt.

Especially when the message you're supposedly sending is 'be true to yourself, don't sell out for the sake of money and fame, etc etc" and then you turn around and get paid to let your songs be used for actual advertisements. That said, I did kind of like some of her stuff when I was younger. Standing Still was probably my favorite.

She put out a new album a year or two ago that is good, too.

Well she understood the meaning of "ironic" more than one of her fellow 90s kids...

Jewel's poetry book was banned by my 7th grade teacher and I've always been curious about it.

Jewel's poetry book was banned by my 7th grade teacher and I've always been curious about it. I have it. Your teacher was right to ban it (I'm not joking). It's terrible. She either didn't get much of an education in English class or wasn't paying attention. There are endless grammar and sentence structure mistakes, bad phrasing, and a lot of the poems just don't make any sense. If you can find it used for like $1 or something it's worth reading for a laugh. Once.
