Honestly it is just such a financial lifesaver too. Yeah like... my aunt and uncle have 4 teenagers. You know how expensive a movie night gets for a family of 6? Hell, that makes even Disney+'s $30 premium movie thing look outright cheap in comparison. Though I can see where they came up with the pricing as targeting, say, a family of four, versus singles or duos. The bigger your viewership group, the more of a value it becomes.

{Spoiler} Upon rewatch I realized how useless both the entire Presidente’s army is and also Starro’s little babies.
The entire army got wiped out, but Polka Dot Man survived simply by weakly swatting the air around him and Harley survived by kneeling and covering her face with one arm. Lmao

Just got back from watching it at the movies. This was a troma film with a big budget, and that's why I had a great time. Bloodsport's role was like a better done version of what was attempted with Deadshot in the previous film. Harley Quinn was good in this, and without overshadowing everybody else. I also really like the cinematography. The use of images really shined here. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Especially the way the helmet's reflective surface was used in the fight between Flag and Peace Maker. Things were getting brutal and the gloves were off (or helmet in this case). And I really loved the rat.

For comparison:
Mortal Kombat - 3.8 million (3 days)
Godzilla vs Kong - 2.6 million (3 days)
Wonder Woman 1984 - 2.2 million (3 days)
Zack Snyder's Justice League - 1.8 million (4 days)

That was such an amazing shot and unique way to film that scene and I expect alot of movies to steal such a shot in the coming months.

Man, I f***ing loved it. Gunn is so, so, damn good. And probably f***ed up but just a brilliant director. Maybe one of the best around these days. The tension, the guided narrative bumped with comedy. Kind of crazy all this was led up to by the kerfuffle with Marvel. It’s his vision quite unfiltered but all the touchstones are there: the offbeat flow, the humor, the weirdness, the sentimentality all of it. I cackled so many times lol..Quite a few cathartic moments in it as well.
I was curious for maybe a minute on how Smith would have done with him and in this film but I am so happy for any role Elba gets and any chance to enjoy him. MVP in my book. Loved the whole flick though. Gunn was tailor made for a Suicide Squad flick. Doesn’t even feel fair comparing it to Ayers.
I hope we get a third but who knows.

I think it's likely that more people thought MK was a movie that was not worth catching in theaters and was more suited for home viewing (even though it also raked in $22 mil domestic opening weekend against a weaker field and fewer theaters being open in April).

This is bad news… With the recent merger of WBTime Warner and Discovery , the top executives are not gonna give a shit about critical reception or audience scores.. they are just going to care about the box office. So we may not get more ambitious comic book adaptations like this from this studio for a while. Honestly, coming up just $3 million short of expectations is hardly the disaster some people claim it is, given we're still firmly in the grip of the pandemic. It was always expected this movie would struggle to recoup its costs during it's theatrical window - $400 million is a lot to ask of an R-rated movie at the best of times, never mind in a world where half the movie theatres aren't open again and those that are struggle to fill seats. I expect WB are counting on strong DVD, BluRay, and digital sales to push it into profit. I'll be honest, a "less than enthusiastic" B+ from audiences on RT should still be seen as a win after releasing a slew of dreary DC mainline movies, and trying to course correct with more focused, fun fare in Shazam, Aquaman, BOPATFEOOHQ, and this (I'm sure a few of those were review bombs from a certain cult too). I'm sure they were hoping that the GOTG magic would translate to this, but it's a tougher sell with the way things are set up for an R-rated movie. Like you said, $3 mil off of their expectations shouldn't figure that much into the future of the other projects, but who knows with these execs right now.

I think the earlier post about how devalued the Suicide Squad brand - and the DC brand in general - is the wider concern. Arguably the only unmitigated success DC have had since The Dark Knight has been Aquaman. Their output has been wildly inconsistent in both tone and quality, and the whiplash from that seems to be taking its toll.

I enjoyed it. I did get a kick out of it probably coming as close as most any superhero movie would be allowed to get on calling out and condemning certain, err, international policies. I feel like one of the only ways it could be more on the nose is if this was to protect the import of monopolized bananas. I mean, I'd put the first Wonder Woman as a huge success, too, especially given it being a critical hit when they were aching for one, but yeah, things have been inconsistent.

Some point after work I want to write a longer review for this, but I’ll say now I thought it was quite good. The cast in this version felt way better developed than the 2016 film, jokes were funnier.
It made me realize how much the Joker stuff sidetracked Ayer’s Squad. Gunn’s story is a lot tighter, everything feels like it has a point.

{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Anyone get the feeling that Gunn really wanted to make a Squirrel Girl movie, and someone told him no? So, he took those ideas and created Ratcatcher 2?
Squirrel Girl beat Thanos, Ratcatcher 2 beat Starro.

I'm kind of just yet to catch myself in the mood to watch it. Pretty much every day since it came out I've kind of started to only to go, "Eh, naaaaah, not today."

No idea but that girl was great. Reminded me of my ex who would never stop sleeping. Definitely the anchor for a lot of the emotional investment that really paid off (like three or four times) near the end.

{Spoiler}Ratcatcher was a standout for me, that and her pet rat buddy was insanely adorable. When the Peacemaker spin-off starts, they better finish off their arc together because it’s gonna get buck wild.

Watched it today. Can't really add much that hasn't already been said but I quite liked the tone, visuals, characters and fun action. Right up there as one of the best DC movies post-Nolan. We need more stories like these to bring some of these goofier characters to life. The Polka Dot man is memorable and Cena does a good job as a debuting character. Sometimes the comedy didn't land but that's what all the comic book movies do nowadays, so that's really the only small complaint I can think of. But it was a fun watch and will be a rare DC movie I will be looking forward to see again.
