I'm going to watch The third one next. The poster alone has got me excited for this one. I'm hoping it will be better than the second one. Don't worry, it is. Four is pretty fun too. Five... woof.

They don't make sense because they were written by different writers, and some of them had multiple re-writes, etc. Part 2 especially changes some of the "rules" set up by the first movie. Yeah, 2 is almost like Halloween 3 where it seems like it's a completely different movie from the original, although I really haven't watched too much of it as much as I have the other movies. It has the flimsiest of connections with NOES compared to the other movies thanks to Nancy not being in this, and Freddy has no real personal vendetta in it (which is weird because it's subtitled "Freddy's Revenge"). In that case, what exactly is Freddy getting revenge on anyway? (Especially if you account Nightmare 1's ending)

That's the thing, in the first movie, he wanted to get revenge on the parents that killed him by killing their kids, so really, he just wanted to murder.

Apart from the remake and the 2nd one (as it is so different) I like them all.
My rankings would be:
1.NoEM 1 2.NoEM 3 3.New Nightmare 4.Freddy vs Jason 5.NoEM 4 6.Final Nightmare 7.NoEM 2 8.NoEM 5 9.Nightmare Remake

So I had recently saw the movie poster for the first Elm Street and thought it looked awesome when I realized I had never watched that many of the movies in the series or if I have I don't remember. Anyway, I bought the first four and am currently watching the second one. The thing is that I am really confused how his powers work. I mean I get the whole he feeds on fear thing, but there are certain things that don't really make sense. And then there are some scenes where any kind of creepiness or scary moments kind of gets diluted from odd reactions from the actors. Sorry, I know I'm probably thinking way too deep about some slasher movies from the 80's. I think I asked about this a while back. Mostly wondering about how the damage in the dream shows up in the real world, especially when the killings got more elaborate. The first portion of the series would have been a very good trilogy in itself. May even extend to a quadrology...actually, you can play around with the first four movies a little bit to achieve this... 1-2-3 would have worked (yes I include Freddy's Revenge, for "room to breathe" before part 3, so we can be surprised when Nancy shows up again. Also implies that Freddy was just killing teens on Elm Street with some connection to him, till we're left with the Dream Warriors and Nancy) 1-3-4 if you want the stronger links to the Nightmare chain. Would seem like things happen too fast between the first two in this series. Or just have all four movies. You get a story with continuity and a definite conclusion (just remove the teaser in the water fountain. Actually, with the first plan, the same can be said for Part 3, just remove the light in the model house)

Only saw part 1 and 2, both of them in the last few years (despite having known about the series' general plot for many, many years).
Didn't like part 1. Maybe that's because I read a book detailing its plot. But it felt too much like a 'teen movie' for me to enjoy, especially when it came to dialog.
I saw part 2 around the start of 2018, and liked it way more than part 1. The film's not scary, but still entertaining nonetheless.

You wanna make Nightmare on Elm Street 2 make sense?
Look at it as the neighborhood legend of Freddy. The stories the neighborhood kids told each other about the local boogeyman.
"You know that one house where that girl's mom died? I heard some demon named Freddy did it. Don't ever go past that house."
"I heard Freddy possessed this kid and made a bird explode."
"Freddy don't even need you to be asleep to get you. My older brother was at a party and Freddy showed up and killed a bunch of people."

Now that I think about it, I don't remember much of anything about Part 2.
When I watched them in a row years ago, I thought that 1 and 3 were great, 4 was average, 5 was terrible (Freddy basically being a caricature of himself), 6 was bad but at least better than 5, New Nightmare was very good, and Freddy vs Jason was back down to so-and-so. I think I ranked 2 as in the middle as well.

Freddy's Revenge is just a bizarre movie. If not for Freddy being in it, you'd think it was from a completely different series.
I love the original, Dream Warriors, and The Dream Master, then things started to go down the shitter with The Dream Child. Honorable mention to New Nightmare for being meta before it was cool.
