Pick a collectible you know well. Like I do with books, comics and VHS. There is lots of stuff in them that have good value, but only hardcore fans know it. For example. 2 years ago was in a thrift. Saw a VHS copy of A History of Violence. Knew this was the last released to stores VHS. So grabbed it cause it was only a quarter. Sold it earlier this year for 100 bucks. Or like comics. Even most comic shops only know DC and Marvel. So you can find Indy comics in the cheap bins that you can flip quick. Like my LCS HAS cheap bins. Buck a comic. I grabbed 2 issues ,first prints,of the first Tick comic. These I sold for 10 bucks each. Same LCS I grabbed the final issue Eclipse printed of Miracleman. So far Marvel hasn't reprinted this issue. It guides for 50 to 60. I have mine up for sale for 45. Hold on, besides being its status as the last VHS released to stores, what made History Of Violence worth $100??? The status of it being the last released to stores vhs,and it was printed in low numbers. People have gotten more than 100 for a copy. Mine has various rental stickers on the slipcase or it would have sold for more. There is a bunch of vhs, that got releases on DVD or Blu ray, that still command a decent price. There is a fanbase of people that were kids when vhs was being phased out that will pay money for certain vhs. For example the Friday the 13th vhs aren't rare. But you can easily sell them for 5 to 10 bucks a movie.

We started doing affiliate marketing as a side hustle but we've started making enough that it's full time now.
Past that, we both do side things like surveys and whatnot to earn a little extra.

I opened my seller account back up and noticed that now they have some verification process needed to sell DVDs. Even if you had great feedback and never got any negative claims against you. Have you had any experience doing that or know if it’s a difficult process? It looks like you need invoices from major companies to qualify. But there must be some way reliable smaller scale sellers can be allowed to sell, right? Or am I just limited to eBay?

For the A History of Violence VHS I used the various VHS groups I am a member of to sell it.

Other than that, I use apps like Receipt Hog, Shopkick, and Fetch Rewards to get Amazon gift cards. My wife has been doing that for a couple of years. Pretty much paid for the majority of our bathroom remodeling with Home Depot cards doing that. Cool! I just cashed in a bunch of points for Amazon cards and bought a new set of headphones, a George Foreman grill, and a few misc DVDs.

I drive for Uber and Lyft on the weekends and I take background work on movies and tv shows when I can.

Cool, not sure if that would be the best route for me though. It sounds like you mostly deal with OOP stuff and while I handle some OOP there are some mass produced bulk stuff I would like to get into selling. I’ve been researching it more and while it sounds like the Amazon DVD marketplace may be a tough nut to crack, it could be worth it. Since Amazon has added that gate to keep smaller DVD sellers out there is less competition and the sellers who can get ungated can turn a bigger profit. It’s so weird to read some of the Amazon seller topics in their forums for this new DVD issue. I made hundreds selling off there in the past and it wasn’t this big obstacle to sell a DVD through them. I never had a problem or big complaint against me as I’m sure that many other sellers who now can no longer use them are in the exact same spot. It makes sense why so many sellers just gave up and stick to eBay.

Books... lots of places selling books for a quarter each. Just know what books are OOP. Buy for cheap and sell for a much higher price. Works well locally cause there isn't much demand for books. So I am usually one of the few looking at them in thrifts. Last year got almost 400 horror fiction books for free off LetGo. All I had to do was meet the guy at his place. Within 3 months had sold about 100 of them and mAde 300 bucks. Resurrecting the thread a little, but just got 60+ books for free. I looked up the Amazon prices and as you’d expect there’s nothing all that valuable in there. Do you ever group them together and sell in bulk? There’s some recurring authors in these with some authors having as many as 10 books or so in the collection. If I were to group let’s say 10 books together and sell it on eBay with free shipping, how much in your opinion would I have to charge to make a profit for it to be worth it? For reference these are mostly paperback 300-400 page books, kind of like the ones you see at the grocery store.

And to clear out overstock, say I got 5 books that just aren't selling,I bundle the 5 up and sell them that wayThere’s some recurring authors in these with some authors having as many as 10 books or so in the collection. If I were to group let’s say 10 books together and sell it on eBay with free shipping, how much in your opinion would I have to charge to make a profit for it to be worth it? That should work. My rule of thumb for pricing books is if it is worth less than half cover price and is a paperback I ask $1.50 a book. Since it is media you can ship them media mail to save on postage. Sure MM is slow but let the buyer know in advance and if they want them faster usually they will agree to pay a tiny bit more to cover the increased cost of shippingFor reference these are mostly paperback 300-400 page books, kind of like the ones you see at the grocery store. Might want to divide them up in genres. Like that huge lot of horror I mentioned,in there was about 30 mystery novels. I don't read that genrelooked them up. They were all cover price or lower. Put up a bundle of all 30 for 30 bucks and it sold in 4 days.

I think a buck a book sounds fair and if I have a large enough group packed tightly it should help with the shipping fees.
