I'll give you 95-98 (although, he did have the classic ladder match with Rock in 98, so not all bad there)... but 99 had Triple H cut arguably the best promo of his career, with the "I am the f***ing game, JR" interview. He also transitioned into an amazing look, with the trunks, more toned body and beard. I'm not even somewhat of a big fan of Haitch, but he really improved himself in 99 character wise, even if he didn't have amazing matches every week. Which I can forgive due being the Attitude Era, where almost nobody was having great matches every week then. To be honest to this day I think these tights were his best look. That photo is begging to be photoshopped

I agree that he was dreadful in 97 especially during that awful Goldust feud where they were seemingly having boring matches every week. I thought he was fine other then that. 95 he was probably the best of big wave of newcomers that came in that he was one of the few that had staying power and didn't have a really dumb gimmick. In 96 I thought the Mero feud and the Mr. Perfect storyline were fine. DX was super over in 98 and in 99 he became one of best all around talents on the roster after his heel turn.

I absolutely loved HHH from around 98-01 but I don't think it was so much his work as watching the journey from coming out of HBK's shadow, ditching the blue blood shit and getting the mean streak. Winning the IC title and then getting the big one. I'm not sure I've ever though "wow this guy is an amazing wrestler". Competent and solid sure but never spectacular.

I love HHH and I think between 1999 and 2002 he's the best wrestler. I'm a massive HHH fan and apologist. However, HHH was especially terrible these years 1995 - 1999. He's so f***ing boring, even after the Cactus Jack table piledriver he has to latch onto Shawn Michaels to make something of himself. He was good in 1998. He had a good feud with Owen up to WM14 and had arguably the best match of that night. The DX v Nation feud was good and his ladder match with the Rock for the IC belt was also good. Admuttedly after that he does go quiet until the following year. But yeah 95 - 97 He was awful and after his first quad injury in 01 he was never the same.

Bruce Prichard is his biggest ass kisser ever, but he was against making him champion in 99 because of how bad and how long his promos were. That about 90% of the office was against giving him the belt.
Bruce then did a hilarious impression and said that every f***ing week it went like this, “Hi uh my name uh is Triple H uh, I am the game uh, this is my world uh.
Mick Foley saved his ass and got him over.

I loved his feud with Goldust when Marlena was in one corner and Chyna in the other, I thought it was a cool little feud and i remember he impressed me greatly by his ruthlessness and skills. His feud with Marc Mero was cool too when he set up Miro with Kurt Hennig. I would love if these days there would be clever stuff like this:
1. There was this hostility between HHH and Mark Mero. I believe Hunter had failed to beat him before. 2. Time passes and everytime HHH wrestled Kurt Hennig would come to the ring and steal his valets. 3. So anyway there's hostility that starts with Hennig and Hunter. It comes to a head when they agreed to a match. (I believe the winner would get Sable I think who was Hunter's main Valet) 4. Come the match, Hennig gets "injured" backstage, cannot do the match. So he ask Mark Mero to replace him against HHH. Hunter is like alright at in one condition that you put your IC title on the line. Injured Hennig is in the ring and he's like of course Mark is gonna put his belt up on the line, he's not a coward. 5. There's a match HHH vs Mero for the IC title. Hennig cost Mero the match and HHH becomes IC Champ. Then HHH and Hennig celebrate, it was all a scam from the start.

More than Shawn, more than The Rock, more than Austin, Mick is the reason that Trips has a career.

Trips was so screwed before Foley made him, that even Vince said that Triple H was gonna be nothing more than a midcarder at best.

King of the Ring '97 HHH feuding with Mankind, his feud with Owen and Goldust, him taking over DX and feuding with The Nation, him breaking away in '99 and starting his main event run...
Easily one of my favorite growths among anyone. I loved his green robe in early DX and basically all of his colorful '98 attires. When Bret left, for me it was The Rock, Owen, and then Triple H as my favorites.

As a kid I only started to take Triple H seriously when he became the leader of DX. Prior to what no matter what he did he seemed like a joke to me.

I agree (except with the “best from 1999-2002 part), which is probably why I had such a hard time accepting him as champion in late-1999.
