I never thought of Jigglypuff as fuzzy before.
You learn something new everyday.

I never thought of Jigglypuff as fuzzy before. You learn something new everyday. Yeah, I'd have imagined a marshmallow like texture.

Jigglygrump. I do like that it has the same marker from the show.

I would figure Jigglypuff would be more velvety, but, I could see the hair being light and silky, like a papillon or a maltese.

You know from a production standpoint, this film being the first live action Pokemon movie makes sense. A full blown adventure/battle film would not only be costly and risky in terms of budget, but also a head first plunge into getting the CGI right for a whole lot of Pokemon.
Something like Detective Pikachu can get away with a smaller budget, a safer concept for mass audiences (wacky buddy comedy with an actor who's huge right now), and allow the designers to get their feet wet with far less amounts of Pokemon than a battle based movie would necessitate. There might be some disappointment that this is the tone and premise they're going for, but for a new franchise its probably one of the smartest moves the studio and producers could have made.

Every step of the way I've thought this was just wasting the idea of a live action Pokemon movie on something stupid and actually seeing it.... Yeah, it is that but with the additional wrinkle of being terrifying.

I've never been a pokemon fan, but that trailer made me really want to see this.

First trailer is up. ...that's...something with the real world 'Mon. Also, was the "only one person understands me" thing part of the game? To answer your question. Yes, at least in the demo. Only the main character can actually hear Pikachu in English.

I....have no idea what to make of this trailer, but me and my wife both agree we need to see it, good or bad, just to say we did.

Watching the trailer again I'm kind of warming up to it. It's... certainly different, granted, and still think a lot of it looks pretty creepy, but I might end up seeing this.
Though it's kind of distracting how literally the only non-Gen 1 Pokemon in that trailer is Greninja.

(Morelull) As well as a bird pokemon next to Pikachu in the Arena shot after the Charizard firebreath. (RUFFLET) edit: looked up their name and found a few more... Emolgas and an Audino

I am all in for this.
It actually reminded me that I need to get the game. I downloaded the demo on my 3DS, and was very upset that the demo ended before the first case was solved.

I think they choices pokemon that casual people might know of for the first trailer. Pokemon like Charizard, Bulbasuar, Jigglypuff, Psyduck, and Mr. Mime are more well known from the anime while Greninja is a pokemon that people probably know from Smash Bros. I won't be surprised if we see more random/lesser known pokemon in the next couple trailers.

I won't be surprised if we see more random/lesser known pokemon in the next couple trailers. There are a lot of them scattered throughout as cameos. The scene where he is first in the city has a bunch of random flying types... there are signage that have pokemon... as well as things like giant inflatables of some of them... they have done a really good job of making pokemon blend in as something that exists in the world and is not fantastical in the trailer. Did anyone notice the Machamp/Primeape boxing poster?
