This movie looks amazing and I'm sure when I see it, I'm gonna enjoy it.
With that said, I'm predicting the rating on RT to be 20% or below. Something tells me it's not gonna click with the critics as it does with the fans.

Maybe won't be certified fresh, but I'm betting closer to 50% than 20%.

Opening RT score is 69%, but not a gigantic amount of reviews so far. Main complaint most of the negatives seem to have is the frantic pacing and it not really being for non-fans.

I just got back from a showing. Quick non-spoiler review:
It's pretty good. It's a well made movie. The story kept me interested. While there are some things you'll probably be able to see coming, there are a few that I'm pretty sure will take most by surprise. There's a red herring in there that totally got me. The characters, outside of Pikachu and Tim, didn't feel super fleshed out. They were just there to move the plot along.
The movie seems to absolutely revel in its source material and it is *VERY* faithful to it. This movie is 100% not embarrassed about what it is. It is a movie based on a video game and the stuff that game inspired. The movie is set in a city that isn't featured in the games (to my knowledge) which allows them to kind of fudge the rules a little bit without completely contradicting them.
I was especially surprised that this movie really seems to be its own thing. Not a whole lot of sequel baiting. No post-credits sequence (outside of a commercial for Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution. I didn't spot a bunch of sly references to other Nintendo properties. It's very self-contained.
But it's a pretty good movie. Almost definitely the best video game movie to date. I'd call it the Spider-Man 2002 of video game movies. Proof that it *can* be done.

Kind of hoping since it's one of my absolute favorites and there are a lot of potential gags you could get out of Pikachu playing off it.

Someone pointed out on youtube that the reason Pikachu can't use his electric attacks is because he's trying to shot them through his tail. Because of amnesia, he's forgotten how to do it and that they come from his cheeks which stores them.

Went to go see this with my girlfriend today, since we wanted to go to the movies and had already seen everything else that we wanted to see. I wasn't particularly interested because I'm not a big Pokemon fan, nor am I really big on Ryan Reynolds playing himself like he seems to do in every movie, so I knew I wasn't the target audience from the jump. She hasn't played the games since Gold/Silver, but she loves Pikachu and is a fan of Reynolds. I thought the movie was just okay, but keep in mind where I'm coming from. Rime City itself was the best part far, IMO, and I would have loved more scenes of what life is like there. It made the whole Pokemon property feel more alive and exciting than any game in the series has by a distance. I can imagine it'll be a real treat for any diehard fan. So much potential for movies or shows going forward. As for what I didn't like about it, there was nothing egregious that stands out. Almost all of the characters are pretty flat save for Tim and Ryan Reynolds, which holds things back a bit. Also, I was able to guess where everything was going pretty early on, and I'm not even one of those people who's always trying to be one step ahead of the movie. However, my girlfriend was surprised so it's probably a YMMV thing. Her review is "Pikachu was really fluffy, so I liked it." My take is, I'd recommend it without hesitation to anyone who's a Pokemon fan or a Ryan Reynolds stars as Ryan Reynolds in Ryan Reynolds fan. It's the first good video game adaptation since the first MK movie, unless I'm forgetting one. I just got back from a showing. Quick non-spoiler review: It's pretty good. It's a well made movie. It's up to 73% now. Really hoping that number keeps climbing as more reviews come in, I so want this to be great.

So the movie leaked onto YouTube.
I know this because Justice Smith basically tweeted the Detective Pikachu Twitter account to get on it.
Obviously I’m not sharing the link but it is out there to avoid.
