I know he’s a pretty obscure character these days, but given Stan Lee’s passing I can’t help but think it would be a fitting tribute to finally bring the very first Marvel hero to the silver screen-although he did not create Namor. And they are also going to need some sort of new story arc to unfold after Infinity War is wrapped dup, perhaps Atlantis Attacks would fit the bill?

So a Namor movie is probably not going to happen until Universal loses the rights, but (as with Hulk) it might be possible to use Namor in another movie...?

I can't see a Namor movie being a success. Like Inhumans. Too obscure and too lame.

Inhumans suffered - mainly in comics but also TV/film - with having to fill the void of the X-Men. They got pushed way too hard way too fast and inflated to levels they'd never been seen before - it bombed, Marvel stuck with them too long, it bombed, they tried more, it bombed, they finally gave up. Namor won't be a repeat of that. Can't be since there's probably no chance of his own movie for a while. If anything he'll be utilized as a player in another movie/franchise, which is exactly how he's worked the best for many decades in the comics.

They'll have to update his costume if he ever gets a movie. How many people are gonna take him seriously if he's just wearing a speedo?

He's got a navy blue outfit that's gone thru a couple redesigns (which he's donning these days, as the comics are basically making him a villain again) that looks pretty great and could easily translate to live action.

Now that Aquaman's hitting cinemas soon, I'd say even if they did have the rights, the time has passed. While there's room for many similar characters in comic books, making a movie about an Atlantis-based superhero would strike people as a bit redundant despite his earlier comic origins, especially given that Namor doesn't have the pop culture profile that Aquaman has.

To be fair, Iron Man didn't really have much if any pop culture presence before 2008 and that's what the Cinematic Universe started with. Plus Marvel and DC have this weird relationship of trying to mirror the success of something the other side is doing by highlighting their own version of that thing. Moon Knight got spotlight for the first time in years when Nolan's Batman began, DC introduced a "knockoff" version of the F4 when Marvel shelved the First Family.....10 billion other smaller examples, trust me..... So in this case, I'd gather that the renewed focus on Namor in the comic (becoming a big Avengers foe, a Defenders mini-event thing, co-headine status on a new Invaders book) is their response to the Aquaman movie.

Honestly, I'd test the waters by having him appear in a Fantastic Four reboot and see if people react well, then do it.
But even if they just put him out there, it'd do fine. The MCU brand is what sells now, as long as the movie is good, you have another franchise.

I really think he's best used as a supporting Fantastic Four character.

Namor in his own movie might come off as a ripoff despite coming first...but Namor was always pretty much an Anti-hero at best (hell his first appearance was him flat out killing divers) ... so I could see him showing up as a villain in one of the movies... especially if Marvel get a Fantastic Four series/movie going

DC and Marvel have a long long history of ripping each other off... not just Homage things like the Squadron Supreme... but like Jim Starlin was told to make Thanos more like Darkseid for instance...

At this point I'm all for the inclusion of any A and B list Marvel characters that haven't been used yet.
Also, I think Fantastic Four joining the universe would be a much more fitting tribute to The Man than Namor.

Yeah, I missed that part if you want to honor Stan go for the first family over Namor since... he didn't have any hand in creating Namor.
