Happened about an hour ago
Think everything's ok but a bridge or road collapsed in anchorage.
Powers out too
I'd provide a link but on my phone
Also, I hate my phone. Lol

Apparently, there's a possibility of a tsunami as a result.

No deaths or injuries have been reported. A lot of structure damage and road damage.
Powers out for a lot of people still but all good here.
Talking to some people, I got off lucky.

We're still feeling aftershocks. I had 2 funkos fall and a figure and the national news is calling this a tragedy. Where's my sympathy? It took me four hours to find a cup of coffee.

To imagine the kind of power that goes into crumbling roads like graham crackers, it's pretty stunning. I hope everyone is alright.

What does John Tenta have against Alaska? I miss John. He was a very nice man with a good sense of humor.

Amazing what emergencies can do, if this was a normal thing, it would take them 3 months.

Hey, highway designer/builder guy here... there's a real reason for this. My normal projects take 6-8 MONTHS of just getting contracts cleared through the official Letting Procedure. That doesn't include design time and adjustments.
When things are for Emergency work? I can get the same companies on site sometimes the same freakin' day of the emergency.
Why? Because all the auditing, fairness and "fiscal responsibility" gets tossed out the window when shit needs to get done NOW. You also gotta remember the design/grade of the highway is already complete. it's more or less "returning the damage to the previous condition". So the design phase is not eating time either.
Seeing the above highway... I'd wager it will get torn back up in the spring to get worked on again because of settling. The main concern right now isn't cost nor longevity, it's restoring the flow of goods and services.
For the record I love working FEMA emergency level repairs because you fly by the seat of your pants and just "build shit". It's also very satisfying to see the looks on people's faces when they were thinking they were going to be stranded for months and you get them out in 12 hours.
