This is really disappointing. They weren’t around long enough for me to establish a regular viewing pattern, but the couple games I watched were really entertaining football. I was really pulling for this league to succeed

I hate saying I called it... but... Yep, this might end the league... there's a chance by the time it comes up again next year the interest completely wanes. kinda sad since as said it seemed like they actually learned their lesson and were actually working... and you know it sucks when a ton of people lose their job like this.

I don’t think I’ll ever feel bad for Vince, but seems like the league was run a lot better this time and gave more players an opportunity. The timing for this league was a lot better in 2020 since football is king in America now and content is king in general. Tough break for the league.

Can spring football as a concept ever even work? It can and the XFL was showing that. Without this issue we are facing. No question 2021 would have happened. Fans where showing up to the games in MOST of the markets. Ratings where not terrible for a brand new league. The issue is Vince had the capital ready but wasn't prepared for a lost he taking across the board. You have to think Vince lost a crap load of money with all the cancelled WWE events. That is a lot of ticket sales and WM being included in that. people laugh about it going down when its a new league that didn't have YEARS of capital built up to take a lost like the other leagues are taking right now. As we speak the NBA, MLB, MLS, and the NHL are all taking monster loses until they get back going again.

I figured this shutdown would be the end of it, but I thought it would be because of smothering what momentum it had behind it to where it limped to a death in season 2, not going out of business basically overnight during the thick of it. Either way, definitely unfortunate.

Can spring football as a concept ever even work? If it wasn't for this damn virus, we might've found that out.

Can spring football as a concept ever even work? Possibly I think in addition to it being well run,and patient you will need some Tebow/Johnny Manzielish college star who is isn't good enough for the NFL but good enough to stay on roster multiple years. One of the problems the XFL or any new Spring Football League will have is the best players whose profile increases will get poached by the NFL OR CFL. You can't really build on star power if the best of the best and most high profile don't stay

I don't care for the sport so I didn't watch, and I definitely expected the league to be as laughable (to a wrestling fan/non-football fan) as the first attempt in some way or another, but this actually kinda sucks. Much as I fully expected another failure and was ready to laugh at it being a shitshow, as far as I can tell from discussions between people who care about this sort of thing it's absolutely not been a stupid carny joke like the first one was. So I'm not gonna mourn for Vince's cash, but I can't really laugh at it either, it just kinda is what it is.
In essence, I guess I'm saying that having it fail this way is very unfortunate, given it seemed to have been received well and had potential to continue to grow, but then millions of other businesses have it tough right now too, it's only noteworthy to us because of what it is/has been and who runs it. At least some of the players seem to be getting deals to play elsewhere, so that's something somewhat positive.

If the standard bearer in the Arena Football League folded twice and the Indoor Football League can't get started during it's first attempt in years at a national presence, what does the future hold?

Everyone quickly changed there minds and praised it. It was football with no craziness. A lot of new ideas that most was well received, like the kick off formation and extra point ideas. The hearing the reviews of plays to see what goes in in that was nice. Didn't care for the play calling so much. As a city that had a team here, The XFL was well received and overwhelmed Luck and on the turn out. I was really looking forward seeing 40K watching the XFL in St. Louis just before it got called off.

Yeah, I peeked in here to see how it was going after the first couple of matches, the response seemed very positive. Lots of "I thought this was gonna suck, but actually it's surprisingly good football" type comments. Dunno how broadly it was received elsewhere, but it seems a shame if it has to end again, this time not because it was dumb, but because of some worldwide circumstance nobody could've predicted. Who knows? Maybe it'll return in 2022, but I guess that depends how determined Vince still is to get this thing off the ground. As long as he still has the cash and the contacts, at least he's not a laughing stock this time, so there's still some kind of hope, right?

At his age I wonder if Vince would even have the energy to start from scratch again in a couple years.

Yeah, I dunno, Vince being Vince I can't imagine him wanting to give up that easily, given it sorta worked this time and it was a circumstance far beyond his control that caused it to fail. Time will tell, I suppose, I don't like to go heavy on "dude's getting on in years, so..." but nothing's a certainty at this point. He's got plenty of time to think about it, anyway.
