Do you read any of the ones you’re on and are they helpful?
One of the wholesalers I buy from uses a mailing list that is really essential. If you don’t see it within a few hours to know how their inventory has been updated, chances are their best stuff is already gone.
It’s the first maling list I’ve really seen as beneficial for about 20 years. The last was was some GNR/Axl Rose mailing lists I was on in the late 1990s/early 2000s. Those were more a waste of time than anything in retrospect, but fun at the time.

I've heard good things about Constant Contact.

Wait, mailing lists are still a thing? It's been a good 10 or 12 years since I was on one.

Definitely! I’m so glad the wholesaler uses the mailing list rather than social media. I think if they used social media things would sell from them a lot quicker, if it would be by buyers who don’t know how to move the inventory and just see the prices. I think by keeping it to a mailing list they build up a much smaller audience of consistent buyers who know the products and won’t get fed up when they can’t move move something immediately. It’s good business both ways as it builds loyalty from the wholesaler’s customers and assures the customers have at least a chance at getting the best products before they are all sold.

That was a sad time to be a GNR fan. Luckily they announced Axl doing his first year show in 5 years. It was in 1999 I think in Las Vegas. That gave us a glimmer of hope. Chinese Democracy was released in 2008 for those keeping score. Other than that there were some really, really mundane things fans would argue about on there since it was a mailing list that worked like a forum where subscribers could reply and everyone got e-mailed the reply. I distinctly remember one conversation having like over 100 replies. It was in regard to the GNR live album when before “Rocket Queen” someone says, “Come on, you can dance to this shit.” The conversation was all about whether Duff said it or Slash said it, and factions soon formed. Come to think of it, maybe it wasn’t that fun.

It's really apples and oranges. Mailing lists serve a different purpose than social media announcements and reach an audience via a different method and often for a different purpose.
