kvflipside.orgI just love that someone, somewhere is a huge fan of the 1980's cartoon Kidd Video and made a pretty comprehensive website about it. I like the website more than I like the cartoon itself. I thought it had a pretty good theme song... but was otherwise pretty lousy. Bad animation, generic characters, cliched plot lines...

I used to love this cartoon back when I was really little. With its music rights though it would probably take an act of God for it to get any kind of official release.

Well, they can always input the placeholder "surfing" music that they used in the DVD releases for Nintendo shows like Captain N or the Super Mario Bros. Super Show.

You're probably joking, but just in case you're not, I'll just say that Captain N and the SMB Super Show were about video game characters having adventures. Any music in it was tangential and you can get away with replacing it. Kidd Video was about pop music. To replace the pop music in a pop music show, especially with generic placeholder songs, basically kills its appeal.

(believe it or not) Milli Vanilli was in an episode of Super Mario Bros. 3 and the DVD release of it replaced their music with generic music and it totally ruined it.

Didn't they just use the songs the band in that show did or did they also use licenced music by other artists?

It's been a long time since I've watched the series as a whole but I assumed there were other artists used in other episodes.

Yep, not only did they use the actual songs by the original artists, but also featured clips from music videos. The really short-lived Wolf Rock TV did the same.

(FYI: Kidd Video was the first place I heard the Safety Dance, and this was after I knew of the Brady Bunch parody by Weird Al)
