Wish he could have given some notes like this for Age Of Ultron. He did. That's why Joss Whedon threw a hissy fit and quit before the promotional tour for the film. Yeah, if ya believe the rumors, it was a shit show behind the scenes during AOU.

Yeah, basically because the first one was such a monster hit he thought he'd earned more trust and autonomy with the second one. Lots of fighting behind the scenes, which led to a very disjointed, forgettable and mostly pointless sequel. Honestly, other then the AWESOME Hawkeye/Wanda scene and Hawkeye's interactions with Pietro nothing of that movie really stuck with me. It's watchable, but really doesn't add much to the MCU.

It'd certainly explain why AOU was just a big letdown for a lot of reasons. At least the Russo brothers salvaged the series from the shitshow Whedon left behind.

Not even rumors, honestly. Whedon admitted it. Basically, the issue all started with Jeremy Renner. He signed on to play Hawkeye after reading the original Avengers script, where Clint was much more important and in line with his 616 counterpart. Then Whedon landed the directing job, threw out the old script and wrote the one we all saw, where Renner's role became a total afterthought. Needless to say, Jeremy Renner was pissed. So, in an effort to appease him because the last thing you want is a pissed off Oscar nominated actor in your main cast, Whedon wrote all the Hawkeye farm stuff for Age of Ultron. Feige didn't like it, because he thought it slowed the movie down and just wasn't needed. Whedon put his foot down because he was more worried about Renner than Feige, and he won. But immediately after finishing the final cut he resigned. Essentially, Whedon created the whole mess and managed to make everyone angry before taking his ball and going home.

Well, at least it made it possible for me to lay eyes on Linda Cardellini one more time. She is probably my top celebrity crush.

One good thing came of it. Because Ike Perlmutter has sided with Whedon and was Feige's boss at the time, Feige went to Bob Iger and managed to convince him to take Marvel Studios away from Perlmutter and Marvel Entertainment and put it directly under the control of Alan Horn and Walt Disney Studios, who then more or less gave Feige free reign to run the MCU as he pleased. Of course, that resulted in the hard split between the movies and the TV shows, but hopefully Disney will merge the TV and movie divisions once Disney+ is fully operational. I see. Well, at least it made it possible for me to lay eyes on Linda Cardellini one more time. She is probably my top celebrity crush. No argument here. Linda Cardellini is a babe.

I don’t know how to properly explain it, but I find it campy, stylistic and “comic-book-y” all the way back to Firefly. I know that’s what endeared his fans to him, but I never dug it. I think it worked for the first Avengers because the movie had such an “event” feel but if you watch AOU and Civil War back to back, those are two distinct universes. And I’m glad the Russo’s took over.

I like Ultron a lot. It's flawed I guess, but a ton of fun. Nothing at all 'wrong' with it to me.
Maybe Widow-Hulk thing? That was minor and didn't bother me at all. Just chalked it up to the characters having lives off-screen. Ultron himself was great. Vision great. Mjolnir scene great. Klaw great. Etc.

The Widow stuff was weird, but I generally enjoyed the movie. It was a strong look into the team’s dynamic with each other. The whole thing with them trying to stop Tony’s experiment gone wrong was a great example of how to write flawed heroes that are still unabashedly noble and courageous.
