Would these matches deliver?
With Yankem as Kane, he would be working a new gimmick. Compared to their 1995 series, with all the smoke and mirrors, would it be better?

Bret had good matches with Taker, so he would probably have slightly less good, but still good matches with Kane.

Would have been interesting to see how he'd make it work

Giving Bret a story hook like "this guy is an unstoppable killer who you seemingly can't keep down no matter what you throw at him" feels like exactly the kind of thing he built great matches around.

Post Wrestlemania 14, assuming Undertaker is done with Kane and Bret turns face again. Bret and Kane can feud for the next few months. Taker to Mankind straight until June and then Summerslam with Austin. Austin can feud with a newly turned heel Vader, then a heel turn Shamrock, then finally Taker at Summerslam. Bret works with Rock in the fall with Rock as the corporate champion. Austin and Rock still main event Wrestlemania 15, Bret Hart vs. Ministry Undertaker at Wrestlemania 15. Bret retires. And people always say there is no room for Bret in 1998, I completely don't get that.

Bret made it through 1995 having to carry a few programs that were goofy then, let alone in retrospect.
This would not be one of them.

For some reason after this is all said and done, I can see Russo teaming Bret and Kane defeating the Outlaws at Summerslam 1998 for the tag titles.
Tag team partners who hate each other but respect each other.

Bret had good matches with Taker, so he would probably have slightly less good, but still good matches with Kane. Kane in 1998 was better than Undertaker in 1998. I think people people tend to forget what a sack of shit Taker was in the ring during the Attitude Era.

I mean, between late 97 and summer 98 Taker had two of the most important and memorable matches of all time, so I don’t see how I can really agree with that. Kane’s work with the elite, great workers of the business don’t measure up to Takers, and that is across any era of their career.

It wasn't until Ministry Taker and BikerTaker that he became shit.

Was there ever a Kane & X Pac vs Jeff Jarrett & Owen Hart match? I feel like that would of been fun to see.

The 1997 HIAC featured Shawn Michaels doing a gnarly blade job and bumping like a madman. The 1998 HIAC is all Foley. Anyone could have been his opponent. I'm not arguing that Kane is better all time, but during that period? He was better. For every Taker vs. Shawn, there's a Taker vs. Kama.

Would've been even more fun with a healthier HBK in 97 or 98 to pinball around, but yeah, I'm sure Bret could get some good stuff against Kane.
Bret's big man match formula was possibly my favourite thing of his. Riding out the big hits, playing possum and chopping down the legs.
