So who had the better face turn and run, Nikita Kolorr of Nikolia Volkoff?
For me it has to be in Nikita. First of all the turn was well explained and was one of the more dramatic moments in JCP history. Magnam's car accident, had an impact on him, he reevaluated things and it made sense. While Volkoff's turn, because he had a falling out with this tag team partner, all of a sudden he turns his back on beliefs, and is pro U.S.A.
But the biggest thing in Nikita's favor is the rub, he got to be partners with top baby face Dusty Rhodes, which is the JCP equeverlent to Hulk Hogan as far as top babyface, while Volkoff's biggest allie was Hacksaw Jim Duggen, that is if Nikita instead of joining forces and teaming up with Dusty, instead he was teamed up with Jimmy Valient.
But that is just my opinion.

Nikita face turn pop is still one of the loudest I've ever heard on TV. An important milestone in history.

Nikolai turned from heel jobber to babyface jobber so I would say Nikita's turn was more impactful.

If I remember correctly, Nikolai's turn came about as a result of the Bolsheviks bumbling their way through a string of TV losses and then blaming/attacking each other. Nikolai was full-blown Russian up until the split and seemed to become a U.S. supporter just to piss off Zhukov.

Big thing in Koloff's favor? It happened during the Cold War, not in response to the Cold War drawing to an end.
Down side: Koloff wasn't remotely close to actually being Russian.
But still, good Lord that pop when Nikita turned.

Nikita. By a country mile, a city mile and every other kind of mile.
I remember seeing this on TV and just being in a total state of shock...literally speechless.
DO NOT EMBED FOOTAGE OWNED BY WWE UNLESS IT IS FROM THEIR OFFICIAL CHANNEL - Madison
The reason for the turn didn't make sense...but it made total sense when they explained it. One of the all-time great face turns, in my opinion.

Part of what turned him was "his homeland Lithuania" and the Baltics broke away from the Soviet Union and that somehow turned him good. It's nonsensical, sure, but guys have switched sides for sillier reasons.

Don't recall them mentioning Lithuania until the team had already split. In the heat of the moment, it was just the two boneheaded Russians beating each other up because they kept losing.

That's when he added the flags to his trunks.

Nikita face turn pop is still one of the loudest I've ever heard on TV. An important milestone in history. I was just going to say that. It was so loud, the audio was over-modulated for the initial pop. The microphones couldn’t handle it.

Nikita helped end the Cold War. I mean with Rocky beating Drago, Rambo leading the charge in Afghanistan, Colossus being a vital member of the X-Men and Nikita Koloff's face turn the Soviets never stood a chance

Nikita's had the better psychology behind it, I think. It did precede the breakdown of the Soviet bloc, but almost presciently read the gradual thawing in international relations, at least among ordinary folk who'd come to realize that the Soviet Union's people were being held back by the system in which they had to live. Nikita reaching out to help the faces felt organic because it was a competitor who deeply respected a rival and demonstrated by acting in response to that rival's darkest hour with compassion and regard for that rival.
WWE's treatment with Volkoff was simply slapping the geopolitical label on the breakup of a tag team - it felt more contrived if not like an afterthought.
