Strange way for a " Gimmick " to be born but iirc , Marks " HOP " spawned from having the living piss beaten out of him by the Big Show after Del Rio had broken Kanes leg. That was a great feud , Smackdown was the bizz at that time with Orton vs Christian too Smackdown being so consistently great as a straightforward wrestling show was so needed to counterbalance the absolute clownshow that Raw had turned into in the aftermath of the entire Punk/HHH clustersmurf.

It’s still funny to me that the hall of pain gimmick started because Vince played a rib on Mark Henry during a house show and Mark got so pissed that Vince and his flunkies left the building because they were afraid Mark would beat them up.

I'm re-watching 1998 WWF and one of my favorite midcard storylines in Mark Henry courting Chyna. Asking her out on dates, reciting poetry (better than most guys on the roster could, as well), and in general just beaming whenever she showed up. For as green as he was in the ring, which was damn green, I feel like this wasn't a great position and he knocked it out of the park.

Henry's never officially retired but he is working backstage now, there was a rumour going around he'd hung his boots up last summer but Henry denied the story. Last I can remember of Henry making an in-ring appearance was in the Greatest Royal Rumble last year.
