Is it even a record somebody can or should relaistically aim for? To win and then lose a title 16 times? And sure we're long past the time were title reigns are memoriable or an indicator of a wrestlers worth (if they even ever were).

I dont care about the record. But they need a better reason to have Cena there than just the record.

16th is impressive record for Flair, but aren't some of them in 99 and 2000 and not the best title reigns (didn't he win and lose one of them on one show?)

I don't think even Cena wants to see that.

Dude's going to need to get married at least 11 more times to break Flair's record.

I want Cena to win the title like 3 more times in one match. He wins and then HHH comes out and says the opponent gets the re-match right now and some how this keeps going to the point of the title changing hands multiple times so we end with Cena smashing Flair's record.

Yes, and I want him to use the Lightning Fist against Bryan to win it.
In seriousness, if I wanted to book productively I would use him in the IC title picture as someone else suggested, as I don’t know if he’s going to be working the same kind of schedule as Tanahashi probably will as the new champ.
But really, respect the 👊. The fist bashing on FAN must end.

I feel like Cena is at the point where we can safely put him in the Undertaker box. Bring him out once a year as a special attraction but don't give him any more championships or prolonged feuds.

I wouldn't be bothered one bit if he broke Flair's record.

Actually, scratch my last post, I would like to see a Bryan/Cena program in 2019 for the title if he’s willing to work the dates.
Outside of one classic Summerslam match and some one-offs that didn’t have storylines, they’ve never had a long term feud, so that would be fresh IMO.
It’s super easy to write as well. This is the gist: CENA: I want my 17th title, I’m gonna make history. BRYAN: You can’t beat me! CENA: I did it before! BRYAN: You beat the Old Bryan. And last time you fought Old Bryan, you lost. What do you think New Bryan will do? Also your movies suck and Hollywood sucks. CENA: You used a low blow to win that title, you’ve become a jerk. BRYAN: I’m better than ever! CENA: But you won at WrestleMania 30 the right way. BRYAN: New Bryan is more vicious! CENA: So is New Cena! Come get some!
I don’t have Cena necessarily winning the belt, but there’s a lot of untapped potential here for a fun, simple story that doesn’t need a bunch of twists to be compelling.

Cena vs a much loved internet favourite usually leads to good things, so I'm on board.
I'd fake it out. Cena vs Bryan for the title and the record. Flair low blow. Bryan wins. Huge pop. WM moment.

This doesn’t apply in Vince’s world, but I think the answer lies between Cena & Flair. If Cena knows the booking is leading to him getting the record, he should talk to Ric about it & if Flair is cool with it, then book it.
Vince is about to start promoting Cena as the “greatest of all time” apparently, so he’s very likely booking the record breaker. So, we probably should just get ready for it.
Either way, if Cena gets the record, his run should stop at 17.
