Does anyone remember playing the ball game Four Square on the playground at school or in gym class when they were a kid? There's a website with rules and there are apparently tournaments and championships. squarefour.org/ I remember it was a really fun group activity to do during recess.

I definitely remember this. I usually played it in PE.

Four Square was the Smash Brothers of Playground Games.

That game ruled. If you were the Ace you were the Man. I also remember Nickelodeon had this segment called something like "great moments in recess history" and one was an underdog four square story.

At my school it got to the point where we only played "kicks". If you called for a game involving hands your were immediately laughed at and exiled.

At summer daycare we started with 4 square but it proved kinda boring so we just stripped the game down and made it 2 square, 1 on 1. It was so much better that way. In fact it could be an actual sport.

This was really popular at my school in 5th grade. There were 4 four square courts(?) on our playground, and they were so in demand that a teacher would stand over there and make kids cycle out so everyone would get to play a couple games at recess. There were all kinds of strange things like "crabs", where you could kind of underhand dribble the ball before you hit it. It was a lot of fun.

Nobody knew WTF four square was until we learned about it in 6th grade gym. "Oh, so THAT'S what all those grids on the concrete are for!"
We'd mainly play basketball. Or kickball.

Never played it at school but living in the suburbs in my early years, we played it a lot in the street, using the borders of the slabs of asphalt as the boundaries.

It wasn't played in England. I knew of it though because of Recess, the TV show.

I was always really good at 4 Squared, such a fun game. I also enjoyed tetherball.
