SANADA does speak English, just nowhere near as well as KUSHIDA and he doesn't like to talk much in general. Don't exactly think WWE would let him (or anyone) be the strong, silent type.

Seeing reports that WWE is interested in SANADA too, courtesy of Voices of Wrestling. I don't see how he would remotely fit in on the main roster. SANADA would be a fool to go to WWE. He will eventually win the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and become one of their top stars. WWE would not know how to use him. KUSHIDA is much less surprising. New Japan would have moved him to heavyweight by now if it was ever going to happen and he has done everything possible as a junior. The question for him now is how WWE uses him.

I've seen some speculation that the reason SANADA has not moved up at all is because he isn't seen as particularly committed to NJPW. Don't know what the basis of that speculation is though.

He jumped around a couple companies and came into NJPW less than 3 years ago as a freelancer, rather than someone like EVIL who was born and bred in the New Japan dojo system. He’s not one of “their guys,” so maybe that’s what it is.

I was firmly in the AEW crowd, but the more information that comes out, WWE is sounding like a real possibility. I can even reasonably see him winning the Royal Rumble.

At least previously, SANADA was a freelancer who was not signed to a New Japan contract, much like Kota Ibushi. But I am not sure if that has changed and he has worked only New Japan for the past two years, so I don't understand why he wouldn't sign.

Considering Omega's contract isn't up until Jan. 31 I think winning the Rumble is impossible. Has anyone ever asked out of a contract early to do a big PPV like that? Why would NJPW remotely comply with that request?

If he could debut on raw on February 4th I’d be cool with that. It totally has nothing to do with the fact I have tickets to that show not at all

I will be a bit disappointed if he leaves, if I'm honest. I do feel like there's unfinished business in NJPW, plus if he left for WWE then that loses AEW the biggest draw they can get out of the gate. In a way though, I'm more disappointed about KUSHIDA leaving. People have been clamouring him to bust out of the juniors for well over a year and do exactly what Ospreay is doing, he's made it clear he wants to, instead he got kept in the Jrs and is now off to WWE where if their track record is anything to go by he's going to be a 205 Live headliner and not much else. I'd much rather see him move up and face guys like Ishii or yeah, Omega, than be the new Funaki. What choice did Kushida have? Clearly, NJPW has no interest in pushing him out of the Jr division, otherwise they would have. He has to go somewhere else to try and move up. Oh no I agree that New Japan made it clear they'd pigeonholed him too, I just find it crazy that NJPW wouldn't push him higher when he's a much more natural fit for it than Ospreay.

New Japan did KUSHIDA dirty. Hopefully he and KIDSHIDA will be used to their full potential wherever they end up. Dude’s a hell of a talent.
It’s weird that SANADA is being brought up too, because he and KUSHIDA are the two guys I thought NJPW was wasting the most.

Yeah, and year by year they seem to be building up SANADA's role in the company, even if he's still sort of on that B+/A tier in the roster pecking order. This year he got his big title match moment against Okada and came out looking like a star, and he got a G1 storyline where they teased dissension with Naito; if they ever want to go back to that and explore it further in the future, they've created a chance to do so. Obviously if he doesn't sign a contract it'll put a ceiling on how far he'll go, but they clearly want pretty big things for him.

I bet Jericho chimed in and noted that he was counting on being able to do the new AEW promotion and do some other big dream matches in NJPW. It seems goofy to not allow guys to do both. As of now though I think NJPW needs to rethink this. I mean have you looked at these cards for New Beginning? Yikes.

Japanese companies also tend to be more forward thinking than American ones. Until AEW materializes into something more, I wouldn't expect them to cast aside ROH so quickly. NJPW has little to worry about from AEW as far as competition goes. ROH on the other hand is in a spot to lose big, so I'm not surprised they won't play nice with AEW.

Why are you guys acting like that tweet about things are changing was printed in his newsletter? Meltzer was just letting people know shit is going down and getting interesting.

My thought on it is this. If AEW ends up with a good TV deal, we're talking TBS/TNT here, I think NJPW will eventually wonder why they are propping up ROH's cards without getting a ton in exchange. In an ideal world these Elite guys wouldn't even be doing this silliness and just stay with ROH and NJPW and grow both companies worldwide. This is one time where Vince didn't even have to resort to monopolistic tactics. ROH's MSG show is cratering enough without WWE's interference.
