because this place split from there 8/9 years ago and the person you're quoting was an active mod here when it was stil linked to wrestlecrap? Shit it’s been THAT long since we became FAN? yep, scary isnt it.

I voted for the Lashley Sisters.
Crown Jewel shouldn't be in the list thats it's own thing.

So here’s my problem of saying “Crown Jewel was a bad show regardless of the geopolitical situation”
Most of what happened at Crown Jewel was because of the geopolitical situation.
Like, think about it; Braun couldn’t win his first title at Crown Jewel because he’d be associated with that event and Brock can because he’s already a champion.
Shane won the Best in the World tournament because he’s a McMahon and take the blow and, again, any other winner would have been associated with the event and not for the achievement.
The entire reason DX vs. The Brothers of Destruction happened was because the Crown Prince wanted the match to happen.
Which is why even saying it was a bad event regardless is weird because most of it is entirely built on circumstances that had to be done to prevent their actual on screen talent of being associated with...literally the entire Saudi Arabia situation.

Crown Jewel is the obvious choice. Even if it were just a regular show, the booking made no sense and the matches were mostly terrible.
After that, I'd go with Corbin. He's a microcosm of everything wrong with the WWE. They're like "Hey we know we have all these really entertaining technical/high flying wrestlers. But check out this tall guy, Baron Corbin! Sure he's not particularly interesting, has average ring skills and is bland on the mic. But seriously, look at his height!"

I’m starting to feel at this point, there should be two categories: WWE and Everything Else.

It's Crown Jewel just for the point that they could have just one off announced Taker/Kane vs HHH/HBK in that garbage ass match and never bothered anything with the Raw side, but they spent weeks on Raw with it being the 100% main focus driving every show. It was beyond brutal on Raw with terrible promos and old assholes hogging time. Crown Jewel is the center of all of this in general really, just endlessly terrible booking, heinous real world implications, ruined shows for months prior and after, so many other things.

Crown Jewel was such a double whammy, because on one hand you have all the political stuff that disgusted a huge number of fans, but then it was also such a crappy event, with the main event, Shane McMahon winning, etc. I think if it wins they could cover it while still being funny.

Crown Jewel has to win it. And I'm surprised the exploitation of Roman's leukemia isn't on the list. I would've voted that over Crown Jewel as it made me extremely uncomfortable

I kinda wish they would split it into 2 categorys:
Bad Booking (The Luger Award or hell the Crown Jewel Award) and good hearted wrestlecrap (The Gooker).
And yes those are two very different things. One is frustrating and the other is laugh-out-loud dumb. I don't like how the two have been blended together over the years.
So I guess I'd hand Crown Jewel it's own award and Lashley's Sisters the Gooker.

I might be alone, but I was totally cool with Cena vs Taker at Mania. I hated the build, but when I saw the match, it felt like the build suddenly made perfect sense. Cena spends weeks calling out Taker thinking he was a broken down shell that he could beat at Mania and beat in a way Lesnar and Reigns couldn't do. Cena pokes the bear over and over and then when the moment comes, he realizes that calling out Taker and actually facing him are very different and he wasn't ready for it. To quote Wyatt Earp in Tombstone, Cena called down the thunder and he wasn't ready for it.

And I liked it for that.

I don't think there was anything wrong with the actual Mania match between Cena and Taker. Even if it was terrible as far as actual matches go, it was very effective at telling the story it wanted to tell.

Even ‘retired’, you don’t call out King Kong or he’s going to hurt you. THAT’S a good story. It’s what’s happened since that’s really hurting Taker. Saudi money and HHH needing his win back are hurting the legacy. If this is ‘the plan’, he should have stayed retired after Roman. He doesn’t need this and the fans don’t want this.

There were certain Gookers that seriously angered fans: the colonoscopy sketch, Eddiesploitation, the brass rings, the Divas Revolution, WM32.
However some other Gookers were laughably bad stuff like Adamle, the Bellas feud, the Rusev Ziggler angle.
I think MDPT is for the former and the Gooker for the latter.

Take out the controversy surrounding Crown Jewel, and I think it still wins this. I only saw clips of that main event, and it was equal parts sad and hilariously bad. Shane winning a best in the world tournament he wasn't even in to begin with... It was a late WCW PPV in 2018. AMEN!!!! That's the thing people are forgetting about the PPV: even if there had been no controversy, they still would have screwed over Braun Strowman to give the Universal Title back to a part-timer who already held the title for way too long because of Roman's illness threw a huge wrench in their plans, they still would have had Shane McMahon win a tournament he wasn't really a part of, and they still would have put on a PPV main-evented by 4 old guys who can't really go anymore, screwing up one of the most perfect retirements in wrestling history. They were gonna put on a terrible PPV regardless of what happened with the dead journalist. And, honestly, I think they can write a funny induction regardless of the politics, mainly because there's a lot more comedy material than with Eddiesploitation.

I'm going to tell you a big problem with Wrestlecrap then vs now: It's now. Things, in hindsight, become much funnier, much goofier, and more "good hearted". Late WCW was full of Wrestlecrap, but to the fans watching it now, Vince Russo in a hockey outfit winning the WCW was the definition of soul crushing booking. Of course, there is stuff that is the exception, but even the crappiest of stuff we don't laugh at until much later on.

Wasn't the Gooker itself like this really super-hyped thing for weeks on end, and the payoff was the infamous guy in a turkey suit? I'm sure people were pretty pissed off at the time of the reveal, only being able to laugh at its pure absurdly well after the fact.

It's nice to see they actually picked some things that made sense as Gooker candidates. Not just selecting Wrestlemania because the show was too long. I think it's more the fact that Wrestlemania has sucked a bag of dicks for several years running. The fact that the shows were also 2,751 hours long just made them worse. Collectively one bag or remove and individual dick?
