So what are in your opinion, some of your favorite, best versions of the Cinderella story in media. Weather in books, movies, TV shows, plays, etc.
I am sure one thing that does come to mind it the 1998 movie Ever After, that is very good, the Gregory Maguire novel Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister I really liked, of course the 1950's Disney movie is great for it's time. Yeah the prince is a bland character, but what can you do, different time period.
Though if you want to go old school, the Grimm version in which the stepsisters cut their feet to fit the shoe, and get their eyes plucked by birds, very morbid. Perrault version is also good, I like that Ella forgave her stepsisters, but at the same time, they didn't really earn it. In a perfect world, Ella can forgive and forget, but the stepsisters need to show some remource and so some gesture to show they are legitly sorry. I am pretty sure in the Perrault you are suppose to intrpret their change of face of being sincere, while in the Grimm it was clear they were not sincere and thus their punishment was well deserved? Well I am not sure, I still think what happened in the Grimm was a little too extreme. I think my perfect world scenero, I just described Cinderella III: Twitch In Time. Well still better than the 2015 movie.
Just of the hell of it, I tell you the worst version in my opinion, I mean Goodtimes is a candidate, but really for me the Grimm Fairy Tale Classics version, at least the English version, the voices of the birds were poorly cast, and their version of the stepsisters were terrible, very one dimentional, just ugly comic relief characters that I am pretty sure were voiced by men. I didn't like it, and I loved the series, normally they do a good job.
