We all knew that Slaughter burned Hulks shirt instead. Now considering how controversial Slaughters character was because he pledged allegiance to Saddam, I can only imagine how much criticism WWE would get back than. Maybe some tv stations would drop WWE Superstars after the episode aired or before it did because they didn’t think a family show should have a person burning a flag. Remember WWE syndicated programming on the weekends aired at different time slots in different markets. Also, remember that this was 1991 and not the late 90s where the Internet came into prominence and WWE and wrestling in general was at its raunchiest.
And before anyone says that flag burning was shown in news programs in 2003 with no criticism directed at the news program, remember that news programs are a different animal.

They said at Rumble he was desecrating it as Hogan was being interviewed. So, it likely would have been there, not Superstars anyway.

On a side note, this is when Hulk botched his promo and said SUDAN Hussein. I always read that during the Superstars episode where Sarge burned the shirt, he was told to burn the flag instead but he said that he was in trouble with the fans enough as it is and burned the shirt.
