So last night, I went to an indy show downtown. It was a pretty damn good show with some decent names and a fun atmosphere all around. The indy scene in Milwaukee is pretty bad with one crappy deathmatch company that’s settled into taking the top spot. There’s BCW but they don’t run any shows in Milwaukee outside of a few free cards at Summerfest and state fair. Dreamer runs a show once a year but always does some bull with Dave Herro. This show blew all of them out of the water. Pretty good production values, looked professional and a decent roster of talent. Couple of matches had hype packages that were pretty well done for an indy. Simon Gotch, Jordynne Grace, DJZ, Gringo Loco, DAGA, Jimmy Jacobs, Austin Aries, Tessa Blanchard. Last time it was the same lineup and The was pretty damn good. The show was a blast until the co-main event.
Austin Aries vs Jimmy Jacobs.
On paper, seems like it could be a fun match and they brought Aries in to help draw the crowd. So the match begins, Aries down the traditional thank god I got out of here shtick. Runs down the fans, you know the cheap heat shit. He then starts talking about his problems with writers, promoters, bookers and general managers and since Jacobs is a writer...he has problems with him! Jacobs with more stuff about writers and bookers and how everybody knows that Aries is prick. It should be noted this is drawing little to no reaction from the crowd. Aries talks about how he makes the rules and it’s a no dq match. The match is a pretty boring brawl and Aries won. He then started doing Pillman’s loose cannon stuff which was more funny than being badass. He yelled at me and I just laughed at him, his stuff was so cringy.
Like seriously this flatlined so bad, nobody cared about the insider stuff. I was surprised that Aries didn’t throw in a reference to the selfie debacle from a few years back. Or a Zelina reference at that point. Or a reference to Aries incident with Callis Promoters...stop with the worked shoots or listening to wrestlers who suggest it.
I’ll say this though...the main event frigging rocked. Kylie Rae is gonna be a star in a year or two. Tessa Blanchard vs Kylie Rae tore the house down the last time they met and this was even better. Two out of three falls this time and it was one of the better woman’s matches I’ve seen. Probably the second best match I’ve seen live next to Styles/KOR from ROH. These two have such good chemistry, I hope that they get the chance to have a match in Impact soon.
