This reminds me of when I was working on my college's literary magazine. We had decided to also include art in the magazine and one of the pieces the class was deciding on was an oil painting of a woman pulling out a tampon. It wasn't the prettiest image, but we all understood the artists intention. As we're going around the table discussing if we want the piece in the magazine, one of the guys admitted he did think the image was gross. He didn't mean it in a mean or degrading way, but the girl who had chosen the piece really took offense and got very upset with him and started yelling at him and asking if he thinks women are gross and it got very dicey as we started arguing with her because we knew that was not what the guy was actually saying. HE was just talking about the painting. This situation reminds me of that a lot.
What makes this whole thing so funny to me is that this only really seemed to blow up because wrestlers like Tessa and Gail and others started tweeting about it and drew eyes to it. If they didn't overreact to it, this spot likely wouldn't have garnered so much attention. You can argue that this spot has put Priscilla's name out there more than being in the Mae Young Classic did.

I mean call me old fashioned here, but I just don't want any bodily fluids in my wrestling. That goes both for this lady's tampon (fake or not) and Spud having a wee (although at least that wasn't on a person...). We saw Austin "pee" on Arn, though given it was like neon, I sure hope kayfabe Austin got a check up after.

I'm not offended by this in the slightest due to it being a tampon or it being associated with a woman's period/vagina. I'm offended by this because I think things like this in wrestling are stupid and unnecessary. This was stupid and awful just like Joey Ryan's dick bullshit is stupid and awful. I hate the responses of "IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE FUN!" or wrestlers pointing out how fake it all is, so everyone should just calm down. I f***ing loathe being told how fake it is by people who are involved with it. I know Halloween is fake, but I would've been really pissed if the movie pumped the brakes to remind me that Michael Myers isn't real. I want to believe that it's a legit competition. I want to believe that this stuff is believable because it helps me enjoy it more to to being so immersed in it. We like to talk about how awful the WWE is lately (And God knows it is...), but in my opinion, dumb shit like this on the independent scene is just as awful and embarrassing for the wrestling business. I mean, it's perfectly fine if you prefer a more serious bent to wrestling, but I think it's pretty ridiculous to take offense to the idea of some other tone being used with it. Wrestling is a storytelling medium like any other, with all the flexibility that comes with that. You can use it for intense drama or you can use it to have a ladder be a three-time champion, I don't really see how one is any more valid than the other.

I respect the difference of opinion, but just from a personal standpoint, a "ladder as a three-time champion" scenario is just an insult to my intelligence. And I get the fact that sounds pretty pretentious, but I just can't get down with any of that. But, again, this is just my dumb opinion on wrestling.

It's the same as any other blood in wrestling. You grossed out by that too? It’s not the same. When else has someone shoved their blood in someone’s mouth? Abdullah the Butcher literally made a career out of that crap.

As already stated lots of times...wrestling is art what does or does not appeal to someone doesn't mean it goes the same for next person.

It’s not the same. When else has someone shoved their blood in someone’s mouth? Abdullah the Butcher literally made a career out of that crap. Yea, he’s disgusting too. He wouldn’t be able to get away with most of his act today. He bled all over the place, but I never saw him putting his blood in peoples mouth and literally using his blood as a weapon. But, I wouldn’t put it passed him. Aren’t we always trying to get better? Shoving period blood in someone’s mouth is disgusting, what other medium of entertainment do they go there? This isn’t a “but the dick spot is okay thing”, but that is gross and makes wrestling look bad.

You never saw him shove his blood-drenched fingers into peoples' mouths, mandible claw-style? He did it in just about every match he ever did post-1975, at least during the matches where he did bleed.

Shoving period blood in someone’s mouth is disgusting, what other medium of entertainment do they go there? Every Lars Von Trier movie for a start. Look, I’m not saying people have to like it or you’re not allowed to disagree with it but wrestling isn’t the only form of entertainment to do low brow stuff and if this is what makes wrestling look bad, they haven’t been paying attention to all the domestic abuse, fake pregnancy and fake gay marriage storylines in the past 20 years.

Exactly. I just came back to post how disappointed I was to see that Pricilla Kelley has taken the "Ghostbusters Remake" approach. If you disagree with/don't like what she did, you're automatically sexist and grossed out by women. I'm sure some folks who hated this aren't the most upstanding people, but screaming "MISOGYNY!" to shield yourself from criticism is pretty pathetic.

I don’t even know who that is, but I think that is a gross spot and not something I can really see anyone enjoying. And I don’t think if you don’t like it that you have a problem with woman’s bodily functions. I can’t really see the entertainment of putting a bloody tampon in someone’s mouth, I get it’s fake blood, but that is passed the line of decency to me. I’m not going to attack her on Twitter for it, I’m just not trying to see it. And it is grosser than someone bleeding in a match or someone rolling in shit on the show, mostly because it was shoved in her mouth.

I’d tell you to look up any of his recent controversial works but...I’d rather you not. Again, my point isn’t to say you have to like, agree or anything, just saying there are worst things the entertainment industry has done that goes past decency.

I have no problem with it. Obviously, it wasn't real blood. But if wrestling was real and someone shoved a period soaked tampon in your mouth, it would psychologically mess with you so much, you wouldn't know wtf to do and you'd probably lose the match. It's good strategy.
It could also be like Jake Roberts snake. The opponent knowing that they might get a snake slithering all over them, messes with their mind, that they're beaten before the match even starts. The tampon can be Priscillas "Damien".

Man, am I late to the party on this one. I personally have no problem with this. Yeah, it's gross, but if it's gimmicked then I'd take this before things like staple gun spots, cheese grater spots or taking insane bumps that'll nearly kill you that only twenty people will ever see. Priscilla's probably never getting a job at the E now, but oh well. I doubt it will affect her one way or another. While there's an ick factor to it, there was nothing to it that would blacklist her. It wasn't like it was pornographic or the like and is no different from any of the times they've had defecation, urination or the like used in an angle. I don't think the WWE will care about the spot itself as much as the controversy it's causing. I could see WWE management watching footage of this and laughing it off. What they're not gonna laugh off is mainstream media calling the WWE trash because they signed a chick who sticks used tampons into peoples mouths. They might not consider her talents worth that kind of press. I mean, one of Session Moth Martina's regular spots is pulling "used" condoms out of her bottoms and putting them on her hands to do a mandible claw, and as far as I know, she doesn't get a lot of flak for it. It's gross, yeah, but it's wrestling. It's fake. Brain Damage once took a skill saw with a rubber blade to Dean Ambrose's head. I bet this was just as gimmicked as that was. The thing about Priscilla Kelly was that she was in the Mae Young Classic, which means she was probably on the WWE's radar on some level, thus on the radar of media outlets who like to trash the WWE when they can. Martina not so much. Martina can do silly things like that and not be noticed outside of the hardcore fanbase. "Former, potentially returning, WWE performer does something really really gross" is a slightly different headline.
