Okay, to give some blunt but I think necessary advice - as a queer, I think you are making a mistake giving your protagonist this character trait when you have not personally lived this experience.
That said, if you want to do it anyway your trans and non-binary friends are who you should be talking to about this. They are more likely to open up to you and give you their experience than randoms on the internet.
Not being trans myself I have no idea if the transfolk of the forum would be up for helping with this, and that's obviously up to them.

So honestly, that sounds like the kind of character that'd appeal to me. But it is definitely an awkward balance to strike, especially when talking about groups you're not a part of. One of the best bits of advice I've seen to avoid things seeming too stereotypical is research which you already seem to be on the right track with, but also not to make it a lone character, because then they can seem to be a representation of what you think of a given group. Which isn't to say you have to have all your main characters be similarly genderfluid, but when you're populating the world with background characters, have a few that might also fall into a similar given group but have different characterisation. Falling into the enby classification myself, if there's anything in particular you want to run by me, feel free to PM. Can't claim to speak for everyone but happy to lend a hand.

Sorry. But this is the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread. Best of luck to you.

Will send out the Marc Quill symbol, as his protagonist falls under that designation: Bang Bang Bart

If you have any LGBTQ+ friends, running your story by them to make sure it's not insensitive or encroaching on anything bad would be the best idea.

I'm an amateur writer myself and that matches my own self-consciousness with writing any sort of character with a different gender identity than cisgender. I've never really had much of a problem with writing well-rounded gay or bi characters even though I'm straight, but then I've been around gay and bi people for all of my adult life and a good chunk of my teenage years too. That and I've always just seen it as people loving each other no matter what they're equipped with. And while I have trans and nonbinary friends, it's still a subject I'm sensitive about broaching with respect and dignity without unintentionally going into tired stereotypes.
