Freaks and Geeks.
NBC had Seth Rogen, James Franco and several other talented young actors before anyone knew who they were. But because they couldn't be bothered to give the show a decent time slot. They gave up after 1 season.
It would be like if the Bulls traded Jordan and Pippen after 1 season.

Conan/NBC. NBC execs made such a needless mess of that. Fox in the early 00's made a habit of cancelling quality TV shows in favor of some of the worst TV shows known to man. You could write a book about the terrible shows Fox put out in that era

He couldn't grasp why the characters didn't win sometimes, or why they weren't "cool". The entire concept of the show (and, apparently, the reality for a lot of teenagers) flew over his head completely and he gave it absolutely zero support, leaving it to flounder and die. Stupid.

My So-Called Life. Such a great show and we’ll never know if Angela picked Jordan or Brian!
In more recent years, I’d say Party Down. I discovered it on Hulu and it’s really funny and has a great cast. Wish it lasted longer than two seasons.

Smackdown on the CW was their highest rated show as I could remember. And then Dawn Ostroff got rid of that to go for a demographic they could never get(young white women). Dawn Ostroff was the worst. This is the woman who convinced Rob Thomas that the viewers got "confused" at following one season-long mystery arc in Veronica Mars, and to change the structure of the show to three separate mysteries. I’m going to defend Dawn Ostroff for a moment. Going strictly by the ratings, as much as I loved it, Veronica Mars shouldn’t have even lasted its first season. The fact it got three is nothing short of a minor miracle because Dawn Ostroff loved the show that much. I remember hearing at the time that she wanted to renew the show for a fourth season, but her boss prevented it. There are several shows where I can see fans being resentful over the cancellation. Angel, for instance. Not so much Veronica Mars.

Those changes were not what the show needed at all. Hindsight is 20/20, but a fan funded movie (that went above and beyond the needed amount) and now a revival on Hulu show the love that was there, and that grew in the interim. It moved to the new CW, got changed around and then canceled with a vague ending. That's not a fair shake, imo. Especially considering what shows consistently pull ratings wise on that channel as a whole.

NBC is the main culprit for me here, too many shows that I got invested in that NBC canned after S1 or S2 (if you can watch "SELFIE" or "JOURNEYMAN") which both were great shows with the actresses and actors I wanted to break out, but never got a chance to flourish while NBC kept dreck on instead with lower numbers arghh

Not things you necessarily liked, but things that seemed so popular and/ profitable you don’t see how anyone could cancel them. I’m mostly thinking of TV shows, but you could apply this to movies, music, comic books, whatever. Brooklyn Nine-Nine has to be the top one for me in recent memories. Usually when a show gets cancelled it either just dies or gets picked up my a lesser channel. Brooklyn Nine-Nine actually moves to a better channel which shows just how bad Fox’s judgement was. Also, I never watched it and from what I can tell it was less popular than I thought it was, but The OC getting cancelled surprised me. Brooklyn Nine Nine was cancelled due to Fox not wanting to pay NBC to make the show anymore. It sucked, thank god it got rescued, but the decision did make sense. OC tanked when they killed off Mischa Barton, first 2 seasons were pretty damn good tho. Personally, I felt the show got way better after they killed off her character. She became such a bummer in season 3. I thought Season 4 was a return to form. Though the upside was it ended before it devolved into something so stupid and senseless ala One Tree Hill or Gossip Girl.

Dawn Ostroff was awful all around. Still amazed SPN survived those first few years with her at the helm The days when Smallville and Supernatural were the highest rated shows on the CW, but got barely any advertising, and weren't a focal part of the network. And that infamous day where after their winter breaks, Smallville (in it's last season) and Supernatural's returns were pushed back a week, because Vampire Diaries had to go against American Idol, so Vampire Diaries got that slot to show their return episode again, and they had decided to do that on the day that SV and SPN were supposed to return.

Good Game
An Australian video game show shown on the ABC on their ABC2 channel for about a decade. Don’t know how it did ratings wise. But the show was popular within the Australian gamer community with it’s likable hosts, and fun content.. but a couple of years ago the executive producer decided to leave, and during the break period post season one of the cohosts decided to leave as well. The ABC thought it was too much of pain in the ass to replace both, so they just axed it.
