"I don't know, he wouldn't have been the Undertaker and that's the biggest challenge right there, because you're spending so much money for a character that you can't have. So knowing that he wouldn't have been anything close to the Undertaker as a character, how could we have used him? I was never a big fan of really big guys. We had Kevin, we had Paul, and it's really hard creatively - we've touched on this before - booking guys that are that big. Because it's hard in a believable way to get sympathy on them. It's hard for them in a believable way to sell, unless you take a chainsaw to them or a bazooka. It's hard for them to be a good heel because it doesn't make any sense for a guy that big to be a chicken shit. It's not believable."
"I know I wouldn't have been excited about hiring him, not because he's not a super talented guy, but if you would have looked at our roster back then, where would he have fit? He was in WCW before, so, let's have fun with this - we'll use our imagination. Let's assume, hypothetically, the whole nWo/WCW storyline as I had it in my head would have played out the way I wanted it. nWo would have officially taken over Monday Nitro. Top to bottom, it would have been nWo's show. WCW would have been over on Thunder had it played out the way that I hoped for it. Because WCW and Mark Callous had previously had a relationship, I would have probably tried to play off that. I would probably would try to bring Undertaker/Mark Callous in on the WCW side of the equation to kinda be a counter to Kevin Nash, so to speak. So that might have worked, but other than something like that, I don't know. It would have been tough."

His random idea about what to book him as is absolute arsewater, but I agree completely with him that hiring Taker when he wouldn't be able to do the gimmick would have been stupid.

He literally could have been ABA Taker and just renamed “Mark Calloway” lmao.
It’s not hard. Biker Taker was my favourite run of his career.

“Let’s have fun with this, we’ll use our imagination”. We signed one of our competition’s top 1 or 2 guys, we’ll send him off to Thunder because we already have Kevin Nash.
If Undertaker has come over to be the babyface to fight the NWO alongside Sting, it would have kept WCW in the top spot. As far as the crap about not having him look vulnerable, he did it all the time in WWE and could work all kinds of heel without being a chickenshit.
What Eric should be saying is, all the guys there who would have needed to put him over would probably have refused, Undertaker knew it and wouldn’t have gone there unless Vince really was folding.

If Taker jumped to WCW, he would be Mean Mark Callous and would have joined the NWO. He would ride his bike to the ring.

It wouldve sucked. Mean Mark Callous never drew anything in wcw, he was just random tall guy.
The Undertaker persona hid a lot of his weaknesses, like the fact that is hard for him to cut promos or even stare at the camera for long periods of times, that’s why he used to wear the sunglasses while he was Biker Taker, he’s just a shy guy.
That being said, he’s still one of the greatest performers of all time, but as the Undertaker, any other character he had and he failed with them. Without the dead man persona he doesn’t get over, and without it if he returned to wcw it would’ve sucked.
Also what would he do if he returned as Mean Mark Callous? Bodyguard for Hogan? Would Bischoff try to do an Undertaker lite version only to get sued?

I still can't believe he still thinks that the nWo show would have been either a good idea or feasible.

Oh please, they'd skirt as close to pretending he's the Undertaker as they could legally manage. Schiavone would be all "But who is this undead taker of souls???" on commentary while Callaway shuffled out to the ring to a funeral march, probably with Percy Pringle cackling Oh Yeses right beside him.

“Where would he have fit?” Hahahahhahaha as if that ever stopped him from hiring any WWE or ECW vet successful or not before. Maybe they could have had him debut by goosing a title match built up for a year at their biggest show. Bish is a moron and it’s amazing he’s been so successful.

It's....The Mortician!
But yeah, it wouldn't make a ton of sense to hire him since he couldn't be The Undertaker. Given that Sting was already doing the brooding dark gimmick it might be redundant to put Taker in that role. I will say a part of me has chills thinking of an angle where Sting comes down from the rafters and he and UT destroy the entire NWO to send them running.

I mean he could easily still be the Undertaker under the Mark Calloway name.
That said what I expect would be... he comes out in a black and white NWO T-shirt and is quickly forgotten about.

Rumor and innuendo said that Nash was actually courting Taker into joining wcw, I think Taker just used that to get a better deal from Vince, this would’ve been early 99 when wcw was in a death spiral.

Taker dropped the dead man gimmick when he re-signed with the WWF, it was awful but he was over because of who he is, the same would have happened in WCW.
