I rewatched this last night for the first time since seeing it live. Goddamn what a match, I remember the finish vividly but the entire thing was brutal. Mick doing the cactus clothesline with Lita on his back, they barbed wire "armor", both men bleeding heavily, the mandible claw with wire.
How amazing was this match?

It was a really good match, but Edge belonged in the main event that year. You could see how pissed he was making his way to the ring, and I'm sure it fueled his performance. Dude was in the back getting stitches while Triple H was coming down to the main event in He-Man cosplay.

Correct, he did belong in the main event but given how poor his matches with Cena were (until their Unforgiven bout), I'm glad we got this instead.

Wasn't expecting much but they over delivered and Foley finally got a WM moment.

Every Mania should have a show-stealing midcard match, and this was the one for that show.
Weirdly blood and plunder-heavy show, actually. Foley looked like shit, but it was a great match.

On one of the Foley DVDs this and the 2004 epic with Orton are back to back. Weird seeing how much larger mick was in this one but still a good match

Dude was in the back getting stitches while Triple H was coming down to the main event in He-Man cosplay. Given how big of friends he and Mick were. Given how much he would channel Cactus Jack for his heel promos, I imagine there was a lot of respect there, but it doesn't change that there was another one or two zeroes between his pay and main event pay that night. Beating Triple H was just flat-out a bigger deal for Cena to do than beating Edge, again, would be, but it still sucks Edge missed out.

Was this Mick Foley's last great match? Absolutely. I mean, I like the tag match against Dreamer and Funk two months later at One Night Stand II

One of my favourite matches ever, remember a friend of mine, who is also a big Foley fan, physically shaking after the match. That, says a lot

Great match, shouldn't have happened. There was no reason at all for Edge / Cena to not be the main event besides, "But Triple H wanted to."
