He wasn't around for long (and was usually called Axel Rotten) - did he even finish his feud with PN News before bailing? Why the sudden exit?; he seemed to be fairly impressive at this point in his career. He wasn't Bigelow or Vader, but he still had a lot of mobility for his size at the time. I remember enjoying his quick in-and-out run.

Okay, this is weird. Starting looking him up at thehistoryofwwe and wrestlingdata - he's got a grand total of 12 matches during the WCW stint on 'data, but 13 on thehistory, but neither include a squash win against Chris Sullivan that's on Youtube and took place near the end of his run (which lasted from August til October of '91). Here's the weird part - he lost his debut match against Johnny Rich of all people, then won a squash against Joey Maggs later on that card. Then he proceeded to lose every single match he had in WCW outside of the Sullivan squash, and most were against PN News, and all before the first promos of Rotten wanting to fight News started airing. Gotta be some of that weird time-travel filming they were having to do back then. But really, losing every single match except two jobber squashes? Weak.

Axl claimed that Joey Maggs cost him the WCW push because he deliberately tripped Axl during a match where Axl was supposed to go over. The brass thought that he was clumsy and lazy and decided to kill the push against PN News. He wasn't happy about that and apparently decided to leave WCW.

Sometimes I think that my memories of him in WCW are a Mandela Effect mix up with seeing him in GWF at around the same time. But here you are talking about him.

How many 20 year olds have sustained pushes?

I had no idea he was ever in WCW let alone that they booked him to feud with PN News.

Him having a run could have been him being helping set up rings for WCW in Baltimore, just a guess and he was available when they needed an extra. WCW did a lot of Baltimore shows and Axl was local. WWF even used he and Ian to replace Quebeccers in a match against Men on a Mission during a Baltimore house show in January 1994.

He only did one match for them in the Baltimore area, and it was one of the last ones of his stint. Rest of the time he was on full travel schedule with the rest of the roster, Alabama, Florida, NC, etc.

This thread is making me look back on Axl, and seeing that Joey Maggs helped trained him? Interesting, if Maggs sandbagged him on that short stint.
