Thanks to older Superstars episodes going up on the Network, I FINALLY got the chance to see a gimmick that I'd been curious about for a while, that being Steve Armstrong's "Lance Cassidy", and I gotta say, why didn't this dude get more of a chance? There were guys in that era having way worse matches than him, and with WWE in such a talent crunch at the time, I figure having a good looking young guy like him on-side would be an asset. So, yeah, what gives with his quick exit?

That entire group of SMW refugees was intended to serve as gimmick-driven JTTS and little more. It was basically Vince throwing Cornette a bone. Lance Cassidy, TL Hopper, etc.

The WWE/SMW relationship didn't start until the summer of 1993, and guys like Tony Anthony and Tracy Smothers didn't get hired until after SMW folded.

I vaguely remember him but in an era of wacky gimmicks he was just sort of a guy. The problem with 1980s and early 90s wrestling is that if were a solid hand that wanted to go out and work with guys for 10 minutes that was a really bad idea. This was the era of jobber squashes all over TV, so if you were out there having competitive matches with jobbers it made you look like a jobber.

Oddly enough earlier this week I watched an Episode of Superstars where he took on Barry Horrowitz
I had NO recollection of this fool at ALL!
And I was watching the WWF during the time this originally aired, but this gut left ZERO impact on me

I could have sworn he came in with Anthony and the others. In that case, I got nothin'

Steve wasn't married to the business like his brothers were, and like Brian he was also a musician (hence an early proposal be that of a Singing Cowboy). When he saw where his spot on the card was going to be in comparison to the WWF schedule (and probable declines in payoffs from a few years before) he promptly quit.
