This was bizarre. As was Orton randomly winning the Rumble in 2017.

I recall the beginning was woeful, the middle bit was fun seeing just how far Orton would go to assimilate himself into the Wyatts and then the wheels came off roughly around the time Orton gave up his Rumble shot, won it back, THAT match at 'Mania and whatever that was at Backlash.
It's also notable for it being the beginning of the "we know how to make the crowd cheer any Rumble winner" formula that continued into 2018. Namely, put Reigns in the final two and the crowd will just about explode for the other guy winning.

I actually think that up until WrestleMania the Orton/Wyatt feud was one of the better in recent times. The WM match and everything after including the House of Horrors match caused it to end on a damp squib, but the majority of the storyline I really enjoyed.
It was like when Bryan joined the Wyatts but actually executed better.

I feel like Orton winning the rumble 2017 is like when I can't decide what I want for dinner and just have cereal.
He makes sense as a friend of the Wyatts, but subservient to nobody.

He makes sense as a friend of the Wyatts, but subservient to nobody. Yeah, it would've made more sense if a tweener Orton was allied with the heel Wyatt and Harper, then that alliance is tested by Orton's Rumble win and Bray's Elimination Chamber title victory, setting up their alliance crumbling in the lead to Mania. You could even have Orton be the one to turn Harper against Wyatt. I'm still bummed about the 3 weeks where Harper was a rising babyface star and they just dropped it.

I thought it made Orton the most interesting he had been in years.
I liked it up until the projections of worms and bugs during the WrestleMania match. I like horror themed characters like Taker, The Brood, and The Wyatts, but there is a fine line to walk, and that was when WWE crossed the line into being too ridiculous.
What might have been even worse was that WWE had an opportunity during that storyline to push Luke Harper to the moon, but they dropped the ball.

The funny thing is that the storyline was that Orton feigned joining just to crush the Wyatts in the end but if you think about it Bray Wyatt had his best run ever when Orton was "with" his family! He and Orton won the tag titles and Orton did not try to mess with him then. Wyatt also won the WWE title during this to set up the WM match.

The storyline was great until they had an LED ring at WM... that was so f***ing stupid.
