ROUND ONE:
1919-1922-----Nosferatu 1923-1926-----The Phantom of the Opera 1927-1929-----The Man Who Laughs
1930-1932-----Frankenstein 1933-1934-----King Kong 1935-1936-----The Bride of Frankenstein 1937-1939-----Son of Frankenstein
1940-1941-----The Wolf Man
We continue deeper into the 1940's, and the second part of that decade, 1942-1943. Vote for your favorite, and, as always, explain your choice (if you like), as well as mention any other movies you might have seen on this list, below.
We will also accept Write in Votes (although, please mention it as such) for movies not included on the list I'm getting the choices off of. However, I will not remove any from the list (I can't by that point), so, if you want to make your case why a certain movie isn't a horror film, make it. Hell, you might end up swaying a few voters from going in that direction, but I can't/won't remove it from the list or DQ it.

Sure it is low budget, and very dated, but Dead Men Walk got my vote. With it being Public Domain it is easy to find online.

Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man. At least we get two monsters fighting.

There's films with greater notoriety in this list, but I gotta go with my heart: THE MAD GHOUL is a briskly paced b-thriller about a mad scientist who's in love with his star pupil's fiancee, and turns said pupil into a quasi-zombie to get him out of the way, only to find out the fiancee is already in love with another guy! Also there's a comic relief reporter who actually moves the plot along nicely, instead of getting in the way of it.
I love THE MAD GHOUL and had a custom back patch made from the old VHS cover for my punk jacket.

Yes, the bigger films are going to, more often than not, do better in this tournament, but this is also the chance to give some love to smaller, off the cuff movies as well.

The Universal domination continues, as Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man pulled it out over The Cat People (which got my vote...barely). Those were the strongest two movies, but not the only solid/great films here.
I Walked With a Zombie is also a fine, very atmospheric, film. I'm surprised this one got no love.
Son of Dracula was an OK Dracula movie with an OK Dracula as the lead. Lon Chaney Jr. made a fantastic Wolf Man, but a so so Dracula (and I'll say the same for his turn as The Mummy in The Mummy's Tomb, as well as being the Frankenstein Monster in Ghost of Frankenstein). He was decent in each of those (and hey, it's cool that he got to play a good chunk of the main Universal Monsters in such a brief time), but not as good as the originals.
Speaking of original monsters, Bela Lugosi got to basically do his Dracula (though not named as such) in The Return of the Vampire. It's too bad we couldn't switch Lugosi for Chaney Jr,. as each could have fit the other movie better. RotV is kind of a cheesy cash in, but it was cool seeing Lugosi play "The Master Vampire" again.
Phantom of the Opera was decent, but the original is still the most effective.
Okay, on to 1944-1945.
