Was remembering this due to the news about Itami. Amazing how long ago this feels. Yes, there was a tie when the CW division was shown on RAW and when Enzo Amore was actually drawing heat as a heel CW champion. Enough heat that when WWE hinted at some big new arrival for the roster it was automatically assumed it would be the RAW debut of Hideo Itami to be the savior who’d get the belt off Enzo. So the big moment arrived and...
It’s Kalisto. Kalisto the lucha thing guy. Kalisto who has been a flop for several years by then.
And the audience reaction told it all.

It’s Kalisto. Kalisto the lucha thing guy. Kalisto who has been a flop for several years by then. I don't think it's fair to call Kalisto a flop. Lucha Dragons were an over team, he looked great against Ryback and came out on top, and he's a former U.S. Champion. Was it a super letdown in that moment that it wasn't Hideo? Absolutely. Did it make absolutely no sense as Angle introduced it as a "new signing" when he'd been on Raw for well over a year? Yes. Plus, the subsequent match with Enzo on Raw that had the whole division around him was a legit great moment and probably Enzo's best match during his entire run. But yeah, not having this be KENTA was a major f***-up, but I wouldn't put any of the blame for that moment on Kalisto.

^^^ Kalisto has been so close to a kickass look at points, then he always reverts back to stuff like his horrible neon diaper from the Royal Rumble.

Kalisto was great on Gossip Girl, but he really didn't shine until he was on Riverdale.

And the audience reaction told it all. Audience: “Godammit!” Ric Flair: “Woooo!”

Kalisto was great on Gossip Girl, but he really didn't shine until he was on Riverdale. I thought he would struggle with delivering liens in a believable fashion resembling how actual people talk, but then I remembered that's not really a requirement on Riverdale.

You know, sometimes I think "People on FAN are thoughtful about wrestling; they wouldn't completely turn on a guy and stop giving him chances because of ONE bad promo!" and then I'm like "Oh right Kalisto."

Hey, now, to be fair, I never really even gave him a chance to impress me whatsoever. Which is MUCH worse.

It should have been KENTA.
Not “Hideo Itami”.
They had so many opportunities to give him the ball... a debut on Smackdown in a match against Bryan would have been fantastic.

Whenever I see the Lucha House Party, I’m not sure of the possibility or the practicality of it, but when they come to the ring I just want them to get eaten by sharks.

Out of all of the midcarders who have debuted these past 6 years Kalisto's one of the most cemented ones. He's done so much and to this day he's still getting shine somehow. Sure, he's not a heavyweight champion but he's done a damn good amount especially compared to most this generation. He's one of the loved ones of the office.
