ROUND ONE:
1919-1922-----Nosferatu 1923-1926-----The Phantom of the Opera 1927-1929-----The Man Who Laughs
1930-1932-----Frankenstein 1933-1934-----King Kong 1935-1936-----The Bride of Frankenstein 1937-1939-----Son of Frankenstein
1940-1941-----The Wolf Man 1942-1943-----Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man 1944-1945-----The Monster Maker 1946-1949-----House of Horrors/Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein (tie)
Now we enter the 1950's, and some major battles with a poll covering the first four years of that decade, 1950-1954. Vote for your favorite, and, as always, explain your choice (if you like), as well as mention any other movies you might have seen on this list, below.
We will also accept Write in Votes (although, please mention it as such) for movies not included on the list I'm getting the choices off of. However, I will not remove any from the list (I can't by that point), so, if you want to make your case why a certain movie isn't a horror film, make it. Hell, you might end up swaying a few voters from going in that direction, but I can't/won't remove it from the list or DQ it.

BRIDE OF THE GORILLA concerns a man cursed to become a gorilla at night. Sounds corny, but it's actually pretty atmospheric. It's portrayed in such a way that you wonder if the man is physically turning into a gorilla or if he's been kinda hypnotized into thinking that's what's happened to him. Also, it's written and directed by Curt Siodmak, who also wrote the classics THE WOLF MAN, FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN, I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE, and more.
There's plenty of great options on this list that are more well-known, so I thought I'd give a recommendation for BRIDE OF THE GORILLA...even though I ultimately voted for CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.

I think that Wikipedia considered Them! more sci fi than horror, but I would agree that it should be on the list. There's probably going to be a few movies like that this decade, as the lines between sci fi and horror kind of blurred in the era of giant bugs and what not. Still, thanks for mentioning a forgotten movie.

Some really good films on this list here. Went with The Thing From Another World but it was close. Hell, I almost picked Bride Of The Monster since it actually isn't a bad film despite being from the mind of Ed Wood.

As this poll is winding down, it's pretty clear that the Last Classic Universal monster movie, The Creature From the Black Lagoon is going to take it, and it's a deserved victory, as it's a great film. It wasn't the one I voted for, though. That was the original Thing, which is a fantastically claustrophobic film, and is very much a film of its era, which isn't a crack at all.
I also want to give a shot out to Gojira/Godzilla, which is either a stark vision of the atomic bomb given form....or it's a great movie about a giant monster that wrecks shit. It works either way, and in either form.
A movie I thought would get at least a little bit of love, but got ignored completely, was House of Wax with the always great Vincent Price. It's not up to the standard of the three already mentioned, but it's on the level right under those films, and that's not a bad place to be.
Bride of the Monster is also great in it's own way, as it's one of the perennial Ed Wood movies. We'll see more of Ed Wood Jr. before this decade is through.
All right, in about a half an hour this poll will close, and it'll be on to the mid point of the 1950's, 1954-1955, and there's a few battles that'll take place in that poll as well.
