www.f4wonline.com/news/les-thornton-passes-away-84-years-old-276126Former NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion Les Thornton has passed away. He was very skilled in technical wrestling. He's probably best known to more modern fans as an enhancement talent in WWF during the mid/late 1980s, including a tag match where he teamed with a young Mick Foley against the British Bulldogs.

Sorry to hear this. I love watching old WWF house shows where this guy was on (usually in the opening match). Great mat wrestler, and crusty enough that he could get the fans pissed.

Damn... I've heard the name a hundred times and I'm ashamed to say I'm not familiar with his work. It sounds like the man had an interesting career.
Rest in peace, sir.

Les was actually WWF Jr. Light Heavyweight champ for a stint, in an odd way. When he came in, he came in with the lightweight belt he brought from Georgia. At the time, WWF's Jr belt was tied up in Japan and the old Lightweight belt had long since been absorbed into the lucha scene, so Vince just billed Les as the WWF Jr. Lightweight champ for a few televised shows with no explanation of its lineage to the others. I don't believe he's officially recognized these days.
