"I asked for 205 like a year before it happened. They just said no. They said, 'Nah, there's no spots there'. And I was like, 'Okay'. Then I tried it again and I had this whole idea, and I remember watching a TakeOver, and I remember watching it and I got so mad watching it, because I think it was a year after we lost the titles. And it was at the Barclays Center for TakeOver, and I remember watching it, and I just got so mad. And I turned the TV off and said, 'Why aren't I on that? I was on it last year. I was the tag team champion last year. Now, I can't do anything. Nothing's good enough.'"
"I just looked in to stuff to do to keep me occupied, alright, I'm gonna start dieting. I'm gonna start working out more. So then I started to lose weight and then I started to see some results, and I started to drop some weight. Then I pitched 205 again. 'No!' 'Alright.' So I was doing all this stuff and then they announced the Classic - the tournament - for the Crusierweight Title after it got vacated, and the winners were gonna face each other at WrestleMania. I ended up messaging Adam Pierce, who's one of the producers of 205, and I was like, 'Hey Adam, I saw there was this tournament. Not sure if it's fully booked yet, but if it isn't, I'd like to put my name in the hat.'"
"And I don't know this, but I assume that, maybe Adam had to have eventually said, 'Well, what about Buddy Murphy? He's sitting there,'. They go, "'He ain't 205.' 'No, he's close.' And then all of a sudden, they're like, 'How much do you weigh?' I said, '208 or something', and they're like, 'come in on Tuesday, I need to weigh you.' So I just went in and I was like - almost 205 - just get it to 204. So then I come in, and I didn't drink any water. I sat in the sauna, I got down, I weighed myself and I was 204. And he's like, 'Alright.' And he took a photo of me and then I think he sent it to Triple H, and next thing you know, I'm just doing live events and I'm sitting at the house. I get a phone call from Ryan Katz, he goes, 'What time can you come in tomorrow?' I said, 'What are you talking about? For what?' He goes, 'You don't know?' I go, 'No.' He goes, 'We need to film vignettes, you're debuting on Tuesday."

I really respect Murphy for the evolution he's had, reinventing himself and becoming a great worker kind of out of absolute nowhere, and finding out he set his goal on getting onto 205 Live of all things and pushed hard for that only doubles down on that respect. It's rare that someone puts in that hard work and gets rewarded for it in WWE, but the guy did it and he reinvented himself in the eyes of everyone who went from writing him off as 'tag guy who kinda sucks and had to be out of the way for NXT's tag team boom to happen' to seeing him putting on top notch matches.

Murphy is, was, and will continue to be the truth. Get the boy a decent theme song and have him go at it with the other workhorses.
It’s weird how legit they take the 205 weight limit, but good on them for sticking to something for once I guess. Dude’s really completely changed his physique over the years.

Yeah, I was going to say, I get that they don't want to get silly about it like WCW did, or the first run in WWE where they had Matt Hardy competing for it with hijinks to keep low enough weight, but if someone is a little over, who the f*** in the crowd would know? So long as you're within it by like 10 pounds, it's probably not going to be conspicuous. I am proud of him for being adamant to get booked, but I will admit, without Alexa, the tag team was just woefully bland. I don't blame WWE for splitting it up.

I wanna see Murphy vs. Omega in a match where all they can throw is V-Trigger knees.

Buddy Murphy is great. The guy can go in the ring, and carries himself like a star in 205 Live. All he needs is better attire (those torn-effect shorts are goofy)and he's ready to make waves on the main roster. I know that part of his strength in 205 Live is that he's bigger than most of his opponents, but he could put on a great match with anyone.
I really want to see him tear it up with the likes of Seth Rollins and Daniel Bryan.

Not to be mean but anybody else think it's kinda dumb that all of the things they supposedly don't give a f*** about, WWE is dead set on making sure guys in the division are 205, lmao? Like, who gives a shit if a guy is a few pounds over? As long it's nothing egregious and they are having good matches, is anybody seriously gonna be like, "HE AIN'T NO f***ING CRUSERWEIGHT!"

WWE cares, but only in the way someone on twitter who just pedantically explains "illogical jokes" with a post starting with "Um, actually" cares.

So after all the dumb stuff that we have seen in the last decade, Vince decides that the unhealthy practice of cutting weight needs to be real. Everything else can still be fake and ALSO we are not a real sport.
I think I reached the top of the wrestlecrap mountain.

The truth is that Alexa was concerned he was going to start binge eating, so she asked Hunter to put him on 205 Live.

the same company that lobbied to stop athletic commissions from regulating wrestling wants people to really weight 205 or less for a show

So long as you're within it by like 10 pounds, it's probably not going to be conspicuous. It really isn't. When TNA instituted that short-lived weight limit for the X-Division, there was at least one guy who was slightly over it still competing for that title and nobody cared about it. Of course, part of that was that we all knew TNA wouldn't stick with that, just like they hadn't stuck with any of the other changes they made, but that's beside the point. Good on Murphy for wanting out of purgatory that bad, though.

I think it's cool that he set a realistic goal for himself. A lot of wrestlers are bitter because they aren't World Champ or John Cena's arch nemesis. Here is a dude who set a realistic goal to take his career to the next level and did it. That's how you get shit done, one step at a time.

Well not really
People been said they thought he could do some things as a singles wrestler when they break up him and Blake but he never really got a gimmick once they stopped using them. Credit to him for taking the initiative and making himself to be someone you have to pay attention to

Does...Does anyone wanna tell this Triple H crew that wrestling is fake and there's no reason to have guys making weight for anything? Like, someone just wanna let them know that you can literally make up a number as long as they look the part and no one will care?
Like can someone please do that before we start having Takeovers with pre-show weigh ins and Triple H converts the ring in to an octagon?

In the same interview he said that his whole “Best Kept Secret” thing was an idea he planned to take with him to the indies if 205 Live didn’t work out.

I don't think Hunter is going full UFC.....now a mutant vision of Georgia Championship Wrestling/JCP, PRIDE & Mid-South, I can believe in.
