Rusev is definitely one of the better big men to come along in the last decade. He's got a great look, incredibly convincing and intimidating, and can work his ass off. I would seriously love to know management's justification for giving this guy the short end of the stick, but it'd probably just make me even more annoyed. Vince doesn't believe that he and Lana should be together, having said that he doesn't understand why they are married.
Yes he's that shallow
Which doesn't make sense as Rusev is a good looking dude.

When Vince kicks the bucket I hope they examine his brain. I feel like that dude is a melting pot of undiagnosed mental disorders

What a miserable read.
I can buy Nakamura being happy in the midcard as he winds his career down. He has done the main event thing.
Rusev hasn't. I think he would do so well on the indies.

Yeah, Rusev, get out of there, man. Hit up Japan, sign with AEW, anything, there's lots of money out there and a lot of places that would likely push you like a star.
I'm sure he's getting paid well and has lots of friends in WWE, but it's abundantly clear that no matter what he does they'll never have a consistent vision for him. And yeah, as some of you said, I'm legitimately convinced at this point that some people in the office were genuinely upset that "a guy like him" could marry Lana back when he was beefier than he is now (he dropped fifty pounds? Geez, dude was already an animal) and decided he should never be fully pushed as a result.
I only think that because there isn't a single box he doesn't check on the "get over huge in WWE's booking world" bingo card, outside of his having an accent. Dude can work, can talk, "gets it" with regards to the little things in the ring and in promos that make pro wrestling work, he's big, he's strong as hell, he can do comedy as needed, and he's fully capable of getting himself and nearly anything he does over as either a face or heel. At least with someone like Cesaro, who should be tearing it up in main events, you can make the admittedly lame excuse that "his promos aren't the best" or whatever, but at least it's something. With Rusev, there's nothing to justify it, so what's the hold up?
It's part of what's so damn sad about WWE as a whole; they sign up everybody under the sun, and so many of them just basically sit on the vine, rarely or never getting a chance to do anything to stand out near to their full potential. As we always say in these threads: not everybody needs to main event or be world champion, but you should still be trying to use the talent you've got to its highest possible potential, and they just don't do it, especially not with this guy.

Right now is the best time to get a great pay day from companies other than WWE. Get out there and show your worth. Rusev has the tools to be a top star in any promotion, so I hope he decides to go and do just that.

I think it's just wrestling is such a subjective business in terms of who gets push. There are people that Vince just does not see as a main eventer that others do. Unlike in real sports, you can point to more objective measures on why you deserve more minutes/money wrestling does not really have that.

Honestly, I don't want AEW to get too bogged down with ex WWE guys, even though we all know Cody has an in with a bunch of them.
At the same time, I want them to land a great tv deal, become true competition, and push Rusev as the beast we all seem to know he can be.

I must be the only person here who has NEVER seen anything in Rusev other than random midcard guy. There's plenty of people better on the mic and in the ring, and despite his size he really doesn't have any sort of presence. He's just THERE and nothing WWE could do is ever going to change that. The man has been nothing short of forgettable.

I really can't believe the US title was the first title he's ever held, this late in his WWE tenure and pretty much after he had been forgotten as an entity by management. Jesus. It's the first title he's ever held, but this wasn't his first run with it.

Rusev one of the best actors in the company too Did rusev ever turn face after he got rusev day over? I haven’t been watching Yes around the summer time until his heel turn on last weeks Smackdown. There were a few times though where it seemed he had organically become a face and then they'd force him to do or say something heelish despite the crowds loving him.
Rusev is one of a few guys that I really wish would get treated better. He deserves it.

Man needs to get out. Vince is an asshole who won't see the value in him, and you can throw any excuse as to why, he just doesn't and he's an idiot.
Better opportunities out there man, take one while you still can.

Rusev is in the position Charles Wright was in for years. Vince books him based on his intimidating presence rather than his natural charismatic personality. Focus on surface over depth is one of Vince's bigger booking flaws.

I feel bad for Rusev, and hope he does leave to a promotion that knows his value.

Rusev and Lana have each other. That alone cancels out all of WWE's shitty booking.

I still don’t buy the theory that Rusev’s glass ceiling is because someone in WWE resents him marrying Lana. But I DO believe that there is a prevailing thought that because he is a foreigner, (an Eastern European foreigner no less!) that therefore he HAS to be an anti-America bad guy and nothing else. And I also believe that he is in a way of victim of being so damn good that WWE view him as a “heckuva hand” who they can rebuild as a solid semi-main event star at any time. Kind of like why Mr Perfect never got a serious run in the main even or even a run with the title.
That said, I still say that in a proper world Rusev would have dropped the US title to Ryaback-and then the very next night he would immediately have challenged newly crowned champion Roman Reigns, declaring that his yearlong undefeated streak makes him the rightful #1 contender. He would have had a short but vicious feud with Reigns that would have been capped off with Roman barely scraping out a win over Rusev-to then fall victim to Rollins cashing in his MotB contract. And THEN Rusev would have had a program with Cena, proclaiming his desire to destroy Cena as the symbol of America.
On top of that-in a proper universe Rusev would have turned face after his US title fued with Reigns. HE would have come ot the defense of some face getting beaten down after a loss to a bullying heel like The Club or Baron Corbin, proclaiming something like “I used to be like him. But thanks to Roman Reigns I know what thats like now, and I could not stand by and watch someone else get treated like that.”
