I know what you meant (only a double figure million amount of profit from nearly a billion dollars of revenue), but if WWE somehow ended up making a $900 million loss in a year, they’d be royally f***ed.

Oh, absolutely and that’s the worse scenario out of the two, it’s just considering everything they do and the pies they have hands in.... It’s more in an age where Nintendo made so much from the Wii, even now they still have reserves saved from that despite the Wii U’s lack of success.

Part of the issue is that WWE is trying to expand world wide while their own main venue is tanking. So they are spending on areas that are so far not making money back while their own main soure of income could be in danger.It is basically an investment,they have a shit ton of money so maybe not the worst idea.
Then of course you have things like spending a fortune on people that will appear barely never.

Here are some hard numbers if everyone doesn't wanna read through all that. WWE subscribers grew to 1.59m Yearly Revenue up 28% Digital Engagement Year over Year: Views up 57% and Hours consumed is up 77% Live Event Revenue was Flat (14 less shows in Q4) Average NA Attendance is 5000 (down 7%) International Attendance avg up to 6900 (up 33%) Goals for 2019: Focus on Fan Engagement Revenue target of $1B Will increase Capex in 2019 from $70m --> $90m Management believes that increasing fan engagement over the next few years can enhance WWE’s brand value and strengthen the Company’s ability to optimize the value of its content over the long-term. Given the potential magnitude of this opportunity and its importance to long-term growth, the Company plans to continue to invest in content, digitization and international development. Key areas of investment for 2019 include strengthening WWE’s talent base, delivering more localized content, developing the next iteration of the WWE Network service, and leveraging fan data to improve business performance. In 2019, management will continue to evaluate WWE’s financial performance and to balance current earnings with investments that strengthen engagement and drive long-term growth.

What does “Focus on Fan Engagement” even mean?
More attempts at viral videos? Because, and this needs to be said again, they make ZERO money from YouTube videos. They can’t until YouTube changes their policy on it.
Also, it’s great when the Alexa Bliss video does 7m views or whatever it did but if those 7m people don’t watch the show afterwards, it becomes really redundant.

So, North American ticket sales are down over 6 million from the year before, and merch is down 11 million across the online shop and venue merch. People are still going to claim there's no problem and WWE isn't driving away its fanbase, but at this point they can't even wring their hardcore fans to buy enough merch to offset the people who walk.

I think this is an upswing. I can recall lower profit margins recently. And it’s only likely to increase when the new TV deals kick in. Spending $830 million and making $930 million doesn’t seem bad to me.

I've actually been told in ratings threads that using actual comparisons to other programming was not welcome, but since it was specifically brought up in this thread, here is some perspective: Wal-Mart ranked number one on the Forbes Fortune 500 list for 2018 with a gross revenue of 500.3 billion dollars. Wal-Mart's net was 9.9 billion. If my math is correct that puts the company squarely at 2 percent profit. The company run by Vince McMahon, you know the guy who doesn't have a clue what he's doing as far as most on this board are concerned, clocked in at a plus-11.9 percent.

The 7% is in average attendance, so fewer shows run wouldn't effect that figure. I don't know all the numbers so I won't math out how much of the boost was three overseas stadium shows or make any hard claims on that front, but those are neither here nor there.
