There's no argument to be made that wholly discounts the injuries that is an honest one, since, yeah, no shit that's been part of the problem, but if I was going to list WWE's issues, it might not make the top 5.

What do you expect Vince to say? "Ratings are down because we suck at writing and putting on a show that people want to see again".
No, but a more business savvy and cleaned up way would work. Something along the lines of..
"We haven't been able to connect with the fans the way we once did. While our product is still enjoyed by millions of people every week we clearly need to adjust to our ever changing fanbases ever changing expectations in our programming."

The weird thing is that question was “What’s your favorite type of cheese?”

See, I wouldn't even have that first part, since I think the second part acknowledges it in a way that doesn't make shareholders jump out the window. It'd acknowledge that yeah, times are changing, fans are changing, and what fans want shifts.

And THIS is why a guy like Kenny Omega will tell them no. All the money in the world is not worth your health. Just a few years on the road with WWE will give you permanent, chronic injury issues that wrestling on the indies or in NJPW do not seem to have the same rate of.

Tbh, Omega said that NJPW was the third best option today. Even though WWE has injuries he'd still put them above NJPW so it makes you think.

"The unfortunate aspect of sometimes in our business, is that we... our performers are not cartoons. They get hurt. This year, leading up to where we are now, we've had an inornate number of injuries. And when you have injuries... you know, there's a whole bunch of them. Roman Reigns being the principle among them. And even John Cena, not an injury type thing but we thought we were going to have John be more of a part of our programming than we do. John, God bless him, is making more movies. And even John, I would think, would say, 'Geez, I thought I was going to spend more time with what I love to do,' which is WWE. So, he's been coming in and out, he's not really a part of out storyline. You lose John, you lose Roman Reigns." "In addition to that, we've had injuries... Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, who is one of our top female performers, was injured. Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Bray Wyatt, Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, Braun Strowman, Dean Ambrose, Ember Moon, Samoa Joe, Akam from a new tag team, Jason Jordan, Fandango, Big Show, Seth Rollins. It's like we... you had all these injuries, which is really unusual for us, and they're characters. It's no different if you're writing a soap opera and all of a sudden your main character wasn't there. You're in the middle of production, what do you do? You very nimbly change the storyline, but it's not as good as the original one. Sometimes it is better because we're pretty good at it, but those are things that we're faced with, and one of the reasons why television ratings have dropped." "And one of the reasons, obviously, from a live event standpoint, that's dropped too. Because if you don't have your favorites on television, obviously you can't see the at a live event either. We're wide open and Ronda's done an extraordinary job. There will be other individuals coming from different areas that will join us on a longterm basis, that will help us as well" Source: 4th Quarter 2018 earnings call "We've had a ton of injuries. In recognition of this being the worst thing to happen to us in 2016 2018 we're going to make changes to reduce the number of injuries much like we promised changes to the fans on our show".
"So you're giving people time off to recover?" "YES! Now instead of working 334 days a year, they will be working 332. We will also give them free ice cream while we berate them if they express a desire to take time off due to pain or chronic injuries or other unremarkable stuff like that".

Everything underlined is false.
I'd say one other bit is false "You very nimbly change the storyline". I mean it's true that that's what should be done but WWE has shown a complete inability to nimbly do anything when plans go awry. See the mess that was the universal title scene for about 8 months after Balor was injured or the mess that is the universal title scene since Roman left.

What do you expect Vince to say? "Ratings are down because we suck at writing and putting on a show that people want to see again". In a different way acknowledging the problem, offering some kind of idea or promise to improve, and placating the shareholders? Yes. Absolutely yes. I'm sure a lot of people who are tied into WWE just because it's a big company with big money deals don't care about the wrestling at all, but there's still a lot of figures very openly talking up the situation and I remember hearing hide before that some people with money in WWE do have Observer subscriptions so they can keep an eye on their investment with insider info. People know ratings are down and that they had the bad December they did. Blaming it all on injuries is an insane and avoidant answer that addresses none of the problems even when taken at face value and this is in a call to investors. Even if I believe Vince, am I going to keep my money in a company that's at a risk of losing the big deals it has or winding down in its scale as its audience dwindles in an impossible to save downwward spiral driven by the inevitability of human frailty?

I kind of love that he felt compelled to bring up Akam in listing top stars they're missing out on. Of course, he's that guy from a new tag team.

It’s amazing that a company that has spent over a decade making sure no one star is above the brand, then turn around and blame injuries of stars as the reason ratings/attendance is down.

The question he was answering was about Ronda potentially leaving this year, not about declining ratings. And to answer your question, yes a lot of people are keeping their money in WWE because they have records revenues and haven’t even started on the new TV deals. That’s why the stock is at $85.

]This raises a pretty good and absolutely demoralizing point/implication. Even if this is the real reason and/or they really believe it's the real reason, it's a shrug and a "f*** it". Nothing to be done about a steep decline over time in ratings due to an overworked and injury-prone roster, there's no fixing it, just let it be. Absolutely terrifying to think that there's just no consideration made to change things, Vince really is content and lazy enough to let this keep happening and change nothing about the pattern he's fallen into and the way he structures everything. It's just going to stay this way and nothing is going to change it, I guess. I mean, honestly, why not? He doesn't suffer. There will always be more wrestlers, because it's a childhood dream kinda job. Enough kids will come up and willingly wreck their bodies and ask for more, so the ones who want to take a stand will never have a loud enough voice.
