Ashamed to say that back when you still had to burn CDs off Limewire to steal music, one of mine had a live recording of “Crack Addict” complete with Jerry Lawler saying “I can’t wait!” at the beginning.

In a morbid way I’m glad to see that build and quality actually matters in terms of buy rate, and the company can’t lampshade shitty buy rates as “the business is in a down cycle”.

I was able to see it on my analog box back in 2003. Same. What's the source on the digital theory? It’s pretty much the generally accepted reason for the low buyrate. Some could still get it on the analog boxes but a large percentage cannot. That’s why the Rumble buyrate was higher than Mania that year.

They build all the wrong matches. HBK/Y2J and Austin/Rock should have been the main events.

Honestly while I love Mania 19 on the whole, I really have a pretty poor opinion of Michaels / Jericho. The story is supposed to be the young lion trying his damnedest to knock down the older, more worn down one who proves however outmatched he is that he can still pull a clever trick out of his bag when he needs to, I get that, but... Like, the actual match is basically just a parade of Jericho's offense being made to look so completely useless - especially the near count-out after the Walls - that he has to just drop it and start stealing HBK's moves instead, and even that never actually registers as any sort of actual threat. The whole thing just makes Jericho look like he can certainly get moves in on Shawn but none of them are actually doing any damage whatsoever.
Like, it's not a disaster of a match or anything, it's plenty watchable, it just feels like it's wasting your time because at no point does Jericho come off like he has a snowball's chance in hell of winning.

Every match was great but there wasn’t a reason to buy it. I don’t think it was built properly.
Brock and Angle didn’t have an issue or a reason to fight. Their iron man match was built much more better.
Scott Steiner killed his career with that royal rumble match so they had to come up with something like a month and a half before wrestlermania and put Booker T there without any semblance of reason. Then the racist promos by Triple H didn’t help. Nobody cared about the match.
The final nail was that they didn’t advertised that Steve Austin was retiring.

I don’t get the love at all.
It’s one of my least favorite Manias
It’s just so dull and the lowercard matches hold no appeal to me

I was really surprised how boring HBK vs Jericho was on second viewing. HHH vs Booker was worse than I remember.

It had nothing to do with the card, build, Raws up to it, or anything like that, it was just a very weird timing thing that had to deal with it only being available from digital cable boxes. Was available on illegal satellite dishes where I saw it.

It's hilarious because it is probably the single most stacked card in Mania history but the match quality isn't tremendously high considering the talent involved.

IIRC, the month prior, No Way Out drew a really good buyrate with Hogan vs Rock 2, so it’s very possible that some of Mania’s buyrate got leeched from that. It's actually kind of sketchy how well it did. It was down 100,000 from the previous year's No Way Out, but pretty much all of WWE's PPVs in early 2003 were big drops. Other than Backlash which was only 55,000 down from 2002, but No Way Out both years did far better than Backlash did so it's hard to judge on that one. No Way Out 2002 had the debut of the nWo in WWE, so it was bound to be a bit of an anomaly of a buyrate. It had nothing to do with the card, build, Raws up to it, or anything like that, it was just a very weird timing thing that had to deal with it only being available from digital cable boxes. Was available on illegal satellite dishes where I saw it. Same. Can’t remember if it was DirecTV or Bell ExpressVu we had at the time. I think Bell. My dad actually got his friend to teach me how to program the cards so he always got free tv

Best looking 'Mania by far. They need to do more Baseball stadiums. Citifield or Yankee stadium need to host a Wrestlemania. If they can do an open air show in New Jersey in March/April they can do one within NYC's borders. Yeah I agree, the stadium and set up was fantastic. It looked great.

The look of Safeco Park was fantastic. I know that they want to do Football Stadiums for Wrestlemania to set their fake attendance records but once again I'd love if they'd run Summerslam in baseball stadiums in markets that don't have the weather to host an open air Wrestlemania show.

Maaaan. I got some shit to say about this show. But first: I can kinda back up the digital/analog box theory, in that my family had to upgrade to digital just to watch the show. In hindsight, it may have been just a marketing ploy to sell the higher priced digital package, but it definitely was a thing (most PPVs that year fell under the same circumstances, come to think of it).
So, yeah. WM19 is one of the most depressing WM’s ever. Both in first viewing AND in hindsight. And after watching “The Mania of Wrestlemania,” this show is kinda morbid.
Come see Angle wrestle with a neck held together by duct tape and faith, just before going into shock in his dressing room! Come watch Steve Austin perform his final match mere hours after leaving a hospital for a panic attack! Watch Brock Lesnar almost kill himself! Hey, if you like watching old men bleed, have I got the match for you! Oh, and a racist storyline concludes with the racist winning! CUE THE FIREWORKS

The story I've always heard was they list clearance on one of the major PPV carriers and that was what led to the buyrate. I want to say it was DirectTV as WWE was pushing for a 50/50 split vs the 50/40/10 it was with cable carriers.
