Scott "Hog" and "Wild" Bill, the Irwin Brothers (aka the Long Riders and the Super Destroyers) seem to have fallen into the cracks of '80s wrestling history. They were pretty big at the time, but I never see them discussed nowadays. Scott is said to have shown more promise, but his sudden early death left Bill on his own; not that he didn't do well as he could always be found somewhere in the midcard in various bigger promotions before he saw his last notable run as the Goon in the WWF. Bill was a childhood favorite of mine, teaming in UWF with Bad Leroy Brown as tag champs in the Devastation Inc stable.
Those who are more familiar with their work, could they become even bigger as the business was booming, or were they better off as bigger fish in smaller ponds?

To me, the Long Riders and the Kansas Jayhawks (Bobby Jaggers and Dutch Mantel) are very alike: popular midcard tag team from the territory days who did well in the regions but weren't good enough for a national run.

I think the Irwin Brother’s were a solid heel team that could be booked as believable challengers to the champs. I’n kinda shocked that Vince didn’t bring them in to replace The Funks after they left.

The Long Riders could not hang against Road Warriors in 1985-86 AWA.

I've loved what I've seen of them in World Class on the Network, though I hate putting them under hoods, even though I know that's just "What one did" back in those times.

Bill vs Brian Pillman at GAB 89 is great fun.
"C'MON BRIAN! FLY! FLY OUTTA HERE" while swatting Pillman around.

Yeah they were a solid rugged brawler team in a small pond but in a larger pond they lacked the qualities to really stand out, especially since there were so many wrestlers of that archetype in the territory days with teams like the Kansas Jayhawks and Long Riders.

Saw a bit of Scott and way more of Bill. Good brawlers, that were perfect for the territory days. IIRC Bill wasn't good on the mic. But maybe with a good manager he could have been another big tough heel to feed to Hogan in the mid 80s.

My AWA figures of them had a hell of a tag match against those two Masters or the Universe figures that could turn into rocks back in the day.

My AWA figures of them had a hell of a tag match against those two Masters or the Universe figures that could turn into rocks back in the day. I remember getting doubles of The Long Riders one Christmas. So I gave a set to my best friend at the time. Then learning they were slightly different because his had the ones with straight legs. Didn’t really watch the AWA but collected the figures because they were so much more playable than its WWF counterparts and many of them had accessories.
