So Chris Jericho was in a brutal/stiff match with HBK that event.
When he came out for the main event (one of my favorite surprises btw), he looks beat up. He has welts, a bloody nose, a bloody elbow, etc..
My question is: Did he have makeup applied in between matches, to make him look more battered? He sells it so well.

As mentioned, it was a brutal stiff match and I wouldn't be surprised if there was no makeup involved to sell the effects of his encounter with HBK.

Wrestlers are weird. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gave HBK permission to rough him up lol. That happens more often then you’d think.

Jericho felt horrible about punching HBK’s wife in the face for real the prior month he just took a beating and it made sense in storyline that Shawn would beat up the guy that punched his wife.

I imagine that if you catch most wrestlers an hour or so later, a lot of them will look pretty brutal. Swelling, etc, may not kick in during the match proper.
