Sometimes, you watch a wrestler and think that he is absolutely awful. Then, years later, you watch the same guy and you actually develop an appreciation for their work. For me, that guy is Sycho Sid/Sid Vicious/whatever you want to call him. While not the best in-ring worker, the guy had size and charisma for days. He just had a way of making fans care about him. If he was in his prime today, he would be the top heel or face in the company.

Sid had this aura and intensity that made it easier to suspend disbelief when it came to his actual ring work looking so bad. For me it's probably Sean Waltman. I just always thought he was an annoying twerpy little kicky guy when I was watching him back in the 90's. A few years ago I watched through the Raws from 1995-96 and realized just how good he was and really enjoyed his matches.

Luger. 88-90 and 95-97 the dude was an amazing performer, and JCP/WCW never fully realised what they had.

Luger. 88-90 and 95-97 the dude was an amazing performer, and JCP/WCW never fully realised what they had. Especially 88-90. His promos were intense and on point and he was having great matches with Steamboat, Pillman and others. I think they would have stood a better chance passing the torch from babyface Flair to heel Luger than they ever had of passing it from heel Flair to babyface Sting.

And something about him caused me to never give HIM credit for the good matches. Two in particular that come to mind are vs. Hakushi in that crazy decade-ahead-of-its-time match in like 94, and vs. Steve Blackman during his hardcore championship reign. I came out of those matches like, "Hakushi and Blackman are awesome!"

When I was younger I didn't appreciate a lot of the technical wrestlers. Benoit is a good example.

Eddie Guerrero. I couldnt stand him as a kid, now Im obsessed with his matches.
Haku. He was a WWF jobber, but now, knowing his history, every match is interesting.
La Parka. I considered him a joke wrestler, but now I get the joke. I cant enough of him.

Big Boss Man.
Bored me to tears during the Attitude Era but if he was alive now and made a random Rumble appearance or something I'd mark.

carp (SPC, Itoh Respect Army) I felt the same way about Sean Waltman at the time. It wasn't until I watched his timeline 1994 shoot and then rewatched his matches on the network that my opinion of him sky rocketed. I think he may have been too good at his gimmicks. As the babyface 123 Kid he was such an underdog that his wins nearly always seemed like an upset. As the heel gimmick he was such an annoying little punk I never wanted him to do anything but get his ass kicked.

Big Boss Man. Bored me to tears during the Attitude Era but if he was alive now and made a random Rumble appearance or something I'd mark. Oh man, same here. He was a GREAT heel... funny but not unthreatening. Good actor, good moveset, good selling. It's weird to me they never gave him many chances to do backstage skit stuff, aside from the batshit Big Show feud and Al Snow feud. (and let it be said, he pulled off his role in those insane stories very well).

Mankind.
I was just a kid who still wanted the good guys to come out on top and the bad guys to lose, and with the Undertaker being my favorite, you could definitely see how I could absolutely despise the Mankind character. He beat my hero!
I became a wrestling fan during the New Generation era, and I'm probably one of the few that lost interest and got bored as it shifted towards the Attitude Era and stopped watching.

Dean Malenko - I liked technical wrestling already as a kid, but he just seemed too bland to ever give him a chance back then Wrath - these Mortal Kombat gimmicks were all terrible, but today I think he was actually talented and could have had a great run under better conditions

I find myself appreciating Luger a bit more, and only some of the time strictly ironically.
