Time for the second half of 1973, where we we get some more great films and some offbeat favorites...and crap. Vote for your favorite movie from this part of this year, and, as always, explain your choice (if you like), as well as mention any other movies you might have seen on this list, below.

We will also accept Write in Votes (although, please mention it as such) for movies not included on the list I'm getting the choices off of. However, I will not remove any from the list (I can't by that point), so, if you want to make your case why a certain movie isn't a horror film, make it. Hell, you might end up swaying a few voters from going in that direction, but I can't/won't remove it from the list or DQ it.

I went with VAULT OF HORROR, Amicus Productions's second EC Comics adaptation anthology film. Injected with just a touch more dark humor than the first.

Also enjoyable, in a sleazy sexploitation kinda way, is INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS, in which a laboratory experiment causes beautiful women to kill any man they have sex with. As in, the sex actually kills the men! Also the ladies eyes turn solid black and bees are actually involved somehow.

Yeah, think The Wicker Man has this. That's awesome. It's a great film, and the one I voted for as well. The type of film that really could have only been made in the 70's, as I don't think today's filmmakers could do as many things as this movie does. It is fantastic.

My second choice (by a slim margin) would be Brian DePalma's Sisters. An early thriller with definite horror elements, and with a great performance by Margot Kidder as one(?) of the leads. Vault of Horror is fun. Sssssss really freaked me out as a kid (Face from the A Team is turned into a SNAKE!!!), as transformations always really bothered me. It's a fun film now, though.

Return of the Blind Dead is, of course, part 2 in a 4 part series of films, and is actually a little bit better than the first movie. Pretty damn solid. As is The Legend of Hell House. A pretty kick ass little haunted house movie with a great cast. The Satanic Rights of Dracula is the last go around for Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing in the Dracula series. Unfortunately, both actors know it, but they give solid performances all the same. This one just gets a bit silly. Messiah of Evil is decent.


The Pyx, Bee Girls, & The Werewolf of Washington are decent crap. Worth watching as curiosities.
